HELP! Please help me I have ants.

I have been living here for 2months and when i moved in soon realized we have an ant problem they bite they are annoying and are ruining our food! Anyway I had bought stuff that says it will keep them out for 12 months hahaha yeah right, So that worked for a few days now they are back. Do you have any home remedies to kill ants?? Nothing that will harm me or my kids. My kids like to get into everything but it seems like everything I find that are home remedies have borax acid or something else I am not putting in my house.
