This is partly true because when you are poor, you are so worried about finding food and a place to stay, that it's hard to focus on your education.
Luckily, at the university that I attend, the school tries very hard to give students what they need. There are students in the foster care system that are attending college, and the university has made it so that they don't have to worry about food or a place to stay while they are working hard to get their degree. There are also jobs on campus for students, so that they can take care of themselves and get their education. It's not easy, but many students have done it.

hi khoikhoi :)
Education system and quota system also needs to be blamed for this. it usually depends countrywise though, I don't know about other countries, but In india education system is corrupt for sure. Seats are given on basis of how much money you can pay, and caste/quota system worsens the issue. Actually poor people should be given exemtions and discounts by the government. Caste/category systems should be removed ( by caste/categories I mean to say General/Sc/ST/OBC etc).
There are lots of poor people with meritorous performances who don't get seats because they are sold to rich and undeserving Dumb people. here corruption needs to be blamed.
My opinion is students should be provided practical projects or exposure during education period in which they can get exposure to jobs/market conditions in their respective faculties so that they can earn and learn, this will partly help to increase the literacy rate, it will also create huge employment opportunities and poor people will be able to get the desired education. Besides that genuinely poor people should be allowed admissions in whatever fees they can afford to pay. Government should take proper measures to arrange people in income groups and accordingly provide exemtions and waive off fees for poor. This will also help in increasing the literacy rate as well as strengthen the economy of the country.
There should be free education upto higher secondary for all poor students. And the deserving ones should be given extra exemptions on their further education.

I accept the view that poverty is where one lacks sufficient money to be socially acceptable. This leads to dearth of material possessions. There are studies to show that poverty leads to stunted development of the personality. But on the other hand there are several who have worked hard and come out of this difficult situation.

Hello,
Citizens will remain poor as long as they don't find employments. Employment can't be arranged for a huge number of people who don't have basic education. Again your basic needs are to be satisfied in order to continue your education. Thus its a bottleneck. Such a bottleneck can't be overcome without active participation on the Government's part. Also the citizens who are comparatively richer should come forward to help their underprivileged brothers. Even this awareness is to be imparted by the Government. For a few persons it becomes absolutely difficult to spread awareness in large scale unless they try to improve the situation unitedly. Thanks.
God bless you.
