Well, if you ask me a credit card can be both a curse and a blessing. A curse because it encourages people to spend way too much, and a blessing because it can be good to have for emergencies. So personally, I have a credit card but I very rarely use it. This works for me!

i agree with you! it was a big help when my father and mother-in-law were hospitalized specially when purchasing medicines. but when i am having an "impulsive buyer attack", i can't help it but swipe the poor card.

If you ask me? It depends. However, you mentioned that you can survive without it, so do not have one or apply for one. Why? It is tempting if you have no discipline using it. Hence, if you are not that rich and your salary is just average, you may perhaps encounter many problems later on.

I have two credit cards. One from paypal and one that I keep for an absolute emergency (I used it once a month ago to get a couple of tires for the car). The car had to have tires and if I didn't get any tires then my husband would not have been able to get to work the next day. I usually keep the card in my safe deposit box until it is necessary to get it out.

All I can say is, use it wisely. Don't max your credit card and use it only when necessary. Think of it as borrowing money from a relative that you'll have to pay back with interest. If you're trying to build up credit, do not use more than 50% of your credit limit. Pay more than your minimum payment when your payment is due and NEVER pay late. Most of the times you have a decently low apr but if you make one late payment, or go over your limit, your interest will skyrock. My first credit card I had 9% interest, I made one late payment and they immediate changed my apr to 28% interest. Be wise when dealing with your credit. Good luck!
