The 3D Craze: Temporary or Progressive?

What's the big question regarding recent films in the last two years? When the heck did 3D become so popular?
When the concept of 3D film was first introduced in the 1950s it was a revelutionary and somewhat surreal thought. As time progressed and technology inmproved however, three dimensional movies seemed to gain a reputation of being cheesy, low quality, and gimmicky. It very consistently remained so for many years until 2009 rolled around and showed that 3D might actually give movies an entertainment boost afterall. 3D had appeared scarcely in previous years with a slight growth in appeal with films like The Polar Express(2004), Beowolf(2007), and My Bloody Valentine(2009), but none really grabbed too much attention until late 2009. With new film technology specifically tailored for a 3D experiebce and big dreams(as well as milions of dollars) James Cameron's Avatar blew the minds of people worldwide with a movie that was not only great on it's own, but also in how it provided the eerily crisp and surprisingly not-headache-inducing three dimensional quality the 50s could not even imagine.
With the huge success of Avatar, having it break the record for making the most money a movie has ever made, movie makers everywhere jumped on the bandwagon resulting in an explosion of film makers trying to literally put these movies in our faces. To give an idea of how big this 3D explosion is, here's some stats:
-The total amount of movies presented in 3D between 2003 and 2008 add up to about 13 films
-In just 2009 alone, roughly 13 films were realeased in 3D
-Between 2010 and 2011 with movies that have been released and movies that are slated for realease, the number of films in 3D is an overwhleming estimate of about 57 films. In just two years, that's five times the amount of 3D movies realeased in a period of five years within the same decade.
So now I want to hear what you think. Is 3D the future of movies to the point that all movies will be in 3D? Or do you think that the multi-dimensional film experience is just an overblown fad waiting to die out? Leave your commments below and give your opinion!

Well James cameron said that 3D is the future of movies, which I partially disagree because I think not all people want to stick their eyes through the glasses and ended up very worn out, but watching in 3D also gives me thrilling experience because the action would seems more realistic and happened right in front of me. I feel since the studio charge the price higher and means bigger profit for them, the 3D craziness will still growing stronger in the future. Perhaps, they even will start showing movies with 4D experience? Hahaha...

there are 3d out there that doesnt need any goggles.
but in the future this will be the norm but today it really isnt.

Okay so 3D is the future of cinema, but it will never be a case that all movies will be made in 3D as not all of them justify it, as has already been proven by the number of movies which incorporate 3D but gain no benefits from it. And that is the key, as it stands too many studios are enforcing 3D upon audiences not because it adds anything worthwhile to the movie but a gimmick to attract people to watch.
Once the novelty has warn off and studios decide to approach the technology in a more grown up manner is when audiences will really start to see the benefits of 3D as a way of telling a story rather than just dazzling in a couple on innocuous scenes.
If studios don’t grow up and continue to inflict it on us purely as a money making gimmick then there is a good chance it will go away. But Hollywood is to savvy to waste it and as such there will be a time where maybe 60% of movies will incorporate 3D in a beneficial manner.
But 3D is not the finished article, it has problems and as such the technology side of things will also need to be enhanced so that the small % of people who can’t watch 3D or dislike having to wear the glasses will also benefit. If the technology doesn’t advance then the use f 3D will still have a battle upon it’s hands.

I don't think 3d movies are going to die. Although i also don't think all movies will be 3d in the future. 3d movies are great but nothing beats live actors.
