While working at the desk top this morning early. when it was still dark except for the light of the computer I noticed a sudden movement toward me from across the desk. It had my attention instantly. A hugh grass spider was headed my way. I exited the chair ASAP. Since I live in a non kill zone, I ran for the spider catching kit, (a glass & a paper to cover the top) and returned to the room hoping to catch the visitor still around. Sure enough there she was so I scooped her up and took her outside to find a new place to live. My heart is still beating fast 14 mins later. But I am proud, it has taken me several years to teach myself not to kill first, think later.

I do that. I always try not to kill anything unless it is a red back spider because they scare me being poisonous! I usually manage to catch the odd spider although cockroaches are a tad more difficult to ‘save’ but I try whenever I can! I read somewhere once that Buddhist monks brush the ants away before walking on the ground in fear of stepping on them…That’s taking it a bit too far!

Along came a spider and sat down beside her and Ms. Pat took the spider away. I do not enjoy killing things either, but I will swat mosquitoes. That is pretty much it. Spiders have a job to do, and I try to let them. I do not like the sensation of squishing bugs. Bravo Pat, for sending your spider out to catch the less savory critters for her breakfast.

That's great. Be thankful it's not radioactive.

You had an interesting experience early this morning. That's a very good idea to do not kill the troubled creatures entered in your home. I do the same. In the most cases, I take the little animal and put it out in the garden to find its way. However, sometimes if more than two flies enter in my room, I can't stand, and unfortunately I kill them. But why don't you think first and then save the animal? When I stop myself from killing the animal, I stop because I thought about it... I ask myself... Why should I kill it, because it's easier for me? Just to crumple it or to leave it out? What is the cost, 1 minute work? That's what I'm thinking about this problem.
