Tonight I just learned tomorrow it would be a No Car Day here. In order to have a better environment, our city will prohibit the private cars in some places. It suggests people to use more public transportation. The purpose is fine, but I wonder how many people know it. I am afraid tomorrow there willbe a challenge for the public transportation because it is also the Mid-autumn Festival which is one of the most important traditional Chinese festivals.

I think that this is a great idea and would be great if everyone or a large majority participated. Some will and some won't , but if just a certain amount of people walk or bike then im sure that it will have a positive impact on our enviroment if done in more than one city.I personally will participate and try to tell my friends an neighbours to join in to.SOme people just can't go without modern transportation methods due to their responsibilities being so far away ie job and this is ok i guess, its the person that lives 2 blocks away from their work and drives everday that i have a issue with.

I like the idea for a city to do such things, encouraging the use of public transport, where the idea has a chance of working..Unfortunately,I live in a mostly rural area in a village, and having looked at the local public transport website planner it would take me a full working day (8am-5pm)to use public transport to go visit my sister, and to make the connections to return home,I'd spend only about 30 minutes with Her..(There's no evening or nighttime service) It takes me about 30 minutes to drive over to visit by car..Weather permitting,I'd take my bike to work or the shops, but Public transport would be a last option after the car..

I don't know how the people are going to take it without a car. Nowadays a car is more of a necessity than a luxury. Getting to far places in your country, if you don't have a car, you have no choice but to take the public transport and squeeze in like sardines.

i think it will be good if there is no car day in 1 day,and yes there will be a challenge to get public transportation because in no car day i think it will be a fresh air because there's a little bit car running on street

youless,
First of all, Happy Chinese Mid Autumn Festival and I hope that all's well with you at home especially your family.
I must say that this year's festivity is quite eventful with a few natural calamities and raging storms in various parts of China - I am just glad that your family seems to be unaffected by any of these eventful incidents.
I must admit that this is really a great idea and I just wish more people or big countries will organize this campaign which is really a great way to reduce emissions which is partly responsible for the current global warming. While the East may do it on Mid Autumn Festival (Chinese), Hari Raya Puasa - Fasting Festival (Muslims), Deepavali - Festival of Lights (Hindu Indians) and Thanksgiving (West) - all of which will bring this campaign to be much more wholesome and all round.
Until that happens, I hope that everyone will do our part here.

Unfortunately today the weather is not nice, it is raining most of the time and therefore we can't see the bright round moon tonight. But the most important is all of us get together and have a good time. This is the point of the Mid-autumn Festival

Even since we moved to Hawaii we haven't had a car, unless we rent one for the day. Its hard to go from a car to walking or taking the bus but we've adapted pretty well. I miss having my car but I think this will be a good opportunity to start walking more and discovering other means of transportation. I hope the buses can keep up with all the riders tomorrow.

I think it's a great idea, but then again, the public transportation operators must have back-ups and operate efficiently otherwise it will cause inconvenience not only to them, but to the people who need to go to places urgently and don't like to be kept waiting as it's a waste of time.

May each festival of china is a test of traffic. No Car Day is only a measure. Maybe it is not take immediately effect of traffic situation or environment. But at least it lets people to gradually realize the importance of the environment for human survival. May be this awareness in developing countries may not be very strong.

Wow, that's a good idea for environment, but will be a disaster to the public transportation, oh no, for people who always take public transportation. They will face much more crowded buses and trains. When the officers made the decision, they should have considered this, and ask related parties to provide more buses and trains, but I bet they didn't.

I agree with your point of view,I do not think that public transport can do very well in the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day,many people will choose to holiday travel,so a lot of pressure of public transport.I would not normally choose to holiday,to go out,Ithink i can not ride the bus, because too many people. But i support public transportation and the environment, can make the environment we live better.

hi youless oh I wish they would do that one day no car thing here in the US as the air is polluted from car exhaust. I think thats really a wonderful idea but if they implemented it here they would have to announce ahead of time as so many drive to everything even if its'
just two blocks away. bur people sure could get used to public transportation like I do as I do not know how to drive and have to
take a bus or beg a ride from a friend. I do like the idea

wow that would be very difficult, i guess. just imagine how many people will be waiting for the bus at the bus stop and how big the volume of people who will be riding the train. the intentions are good but i can see that it would be very difficult specially in a country that there are a lot of people plus there are a lot of foreigners as well. i hope it will be a successful one.

I agree that it is a very good idea to save the world from the growing pollution. But, it all depends on how acceptable the people are towards it. I have also heard of people going for car pools in order to conserve fuel and make it available for later generations. Using public transportation more often is also a very good idea rather than taking out your vehicle, especially if you are traveling alone.
