Are 3D cinema films really worth it?

We went to see Toy Story 3 and I must say, buying the glasses and paying more to watch the film, just didn't seem worth it for the effects there were. I would have quite happily watched it without 3D. Even my 7 year old son took the glasses off half the time, because he found them uncomfortable. Are we the only family who find it a little bit of a waste of money, especially when there are 4 or 5 of you paying extra, it all adds up.

Hi there..We wanted to see a movie in 3D before but yes, it's quite expensive so we haven't tried until now.. My daughter loves Toy Story but we didn't watch it on a 3D cinema.. Here in our country as I know it, the 3d glasses are being returned after usage. Is it also like that there in your's? I was just wondering.. Coz at first I thought that when we watch a 3D film, the 3D glasses are ours to keep al;ready but I learned that it's not like that..
It's good to hear opinions from others about 3D's, and now I am not so willing to spend more for watching a movie..

I have never actually been to a 3D movie, so I don't know if it's worth it. Noone else seems to think that it's worth it and they don't want to spend the extra money on it, so I never end up going to one. I think that it probably depends on the movie. I really wanted to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D, but we ended up missing the show. :(

I haven't tried watching a film on 3d coz I love watching at home with my family with a lot of food. After stating all people's comments here, i'll decide if I'll see a 3d movie in the future.

most of the time its now worth it. you will only see some scences in 3d and not the whole movie which is a ripoff.

I agree I do not like going to see movies in 3d u can usually go see it in 2d for 3 or 4 dollarsless per person. SO we usually just go and see it regular. There are usuallyonly a few 3d parts anyways and you are really not missing anything and i do find it annoying to wear the glasses the whole time. They kind of make me dizzy and see the rest of the movie a little blurry but thatmy just be me. Usually kids will complain they want to see it 3d but I reallsee no difference.

I think it would have to comply with several factors to meet the criteria of enjoyable, maybe effects were not as great as you would've expected, not like an Imax screen let's say.
But also people are different, we all are, and maybe somebody else would think that the Toy Story 3D experience was a blast.
