Forgive the cliche title, but how do you expect me to resist? When it comes to modern day pop culture enigmas and oddities, two words stand out above the rest: Lady Gaga.
Enjoying seemingly overnight celebrity status, Stefani Germanotta's fame under the name Lady Gaga spread like wildfire the more she was heard. Not to say that she had not worked hard to gain such appeal, being that she began performing for audiences back in in 2003, but when her debut album hit in 2008 with the appropriate title, "The Fame", her fame exploded.
Now, to be perfectly honest, My opinion of Gaga was very negative when she first hit the scene. To me she was just another corporate product who sang songs other people wrote, wore loud clothes to drown out her lack of true talent, and basically deserved no fame. Or so I thought.
The internet is now filled with videos of her live and radio show performances with a few that I have now seen. The thing about these type of performances is that when all the auto-tune and effects and mastering finishes are taken away, the artist tends to appear very dim compared to their albums and singles. With Lady Gaga however, the exact opposite is true. When I first saw a video of her playing paparazzi with just a piano earlier this year, I just about pissed myself. Her voice was amazing! And what else? She was playing her song in a way far more complex and technical than the origional or any remix. This chick had talent! I was floored and quite frankly, happy to be proven wrong.
But with this revelation, I quickly became disturbed as to how much her producers and label managers had seemingly dumbed her down for the album and radio, her talent hid to stay simple and easy to dance to. Shame.
As far as Lady Gaga personally though, I have yet to make up my mind. I still find her preoccupied attitude and chosen wardrobe to be unnecessary and irritating. Call me old fashion, but when meeting with the highest power of a large nation, latex should not be the first thing on the mind.
Either way, I respect Gaga's beuatiful voice and talent, but tend to see her as a superstar who happens to also sing. Tell me what you think of the bizarre mistress, I want to know!

She is definitely bizarre, but I like her. I like her music a lot. Even though I at first wasn't impressed with her either, I feel like she has grown on me. Her songs are so fun! And catchy. And in some of her other, not famous songs - she actually does have a voice. (Listen to "Wonderful" and "Again Again"). I think she knows how to work the system and get the $$ (she is probably a BILLIONAIRE by now, at LEAST!) but she does have a pretty good voice underneath all of those effects and techno background music. Her style is definitely funky, and she is not my "style icon" - but I do enjoy her music.
I'm not "Gaga" for Gaga, but I do have an appreciation for the music. . Although I can't say I'd spend $150 to see her live (that's the going price for one of her concert tickets in MPLS, MN).

I really could care less one way or the other about her. NPR was making a big deal out of her getting politically involved and calling representatives to try and presuade them on an issue. I really do not think that she has big sway with politicians.
