Why has john change so much during the past years?

Before my friend john hasnt no respect for the girls he has dated. But during the past year since going steady with charice , he has been very careful of his conduct on dates. Why has john change so much during the past years?

I guess it just means hes growing up and being more mature now. He must of realised somewhere along the line that what he was doing was out of order.
