Don't Tip the Waiter

Do You Have To Tip the Waiter? How much? Most people in the food industry on 15% of what they carry.if you don't tip at least 15% of your bill, your waiter is practically losing money,You're stealing from him. Another factor you should take into account is the length of time you are at your table. If the waiter was really that rude that you just can not bring yourself to tip him, then I'd suggest speaking to the manager, Privately and quietly, you could give him the 15% tip and ask him to make sure it goes to the "tip-out" staff. here are some place' s rule of tip for waiter. But in some country you always hear a shocking sentence " Don't Tip the Waiter ".

Hi Johney, I always tip at least 15% even if the waiter is rude. If I'm able to I always try to tip more if the service was great. If rude or lousy service then I report it to the manager. We have people in other lines of customer service that get paid a full wage regardless of how they treat people. Truthfully, I don't think it should be up to us to pay the waiter's salary. It should be up to the owner as in any business. The tip should be a gratuity and not their pay check but that's how it is.

I tip when I like. Most hotels and restaurants in Bali apply 11% service charge, anyway.

In Japan you're not supposed to tip the waiter. In fact nobody does that, but I don't know why. Maybe because you're already paying taxes. No waiter or waitress here would accept a tip even if you tried to give it to them.

there are some restaurants here in the philippines which is pay as you order, i don't give tip on this kind of restaurants since there are no waiters. But in some fine dining, that's somehow oblige you to give a tip to the waiter.

First off a tip is not something you have to do, and the person who works in this line of work should not feel entitled to it. When a person EXPECTS the tip, or feels ENTITLED to a tip and they do not get one they will be upset, if the person expects only their hourly wage then all the tips they do get will make them feel better, they concentrate on it as extra as they did not feel they were entitled to more. That being said, 15% is the standard, some might give less, some might give more. I myself always tip, unless something serious has gone wrong, and yes that is where I ask to speak to someone in charge. 2 points here.. Never feel you are entitled to a tip Tip your food server if they were good

I will tip however I only tip if I am happy with the service that I have received. I base the tip on their attitude and promptness. How much they approach the table during our meal etc.

If the waiter was good, then I'll tip but not if the situation's otherwise. I'm surprised in some countries they don't tip the waiter.

I only tip if the service is wortgh it. If a waiter or waitress doesn't give me the kind of service they should have, it will be reflected in the lack of tip. I don't tip out of obligation.

I am a very great tipper where of course it is well over deserved. My view of wait staff is that they only get 1/4 of the normal minimum wage per hour salary and they are dependent on the tips to survive. Times for me are a bit different where it is hard to help out so many people so if and when I do go to a restaurant I do take into account that I will be tipping so if I will not be able to pay bill and give a good tip then I will pass on the offer of going to a restaurant. However, it amazed me here that if I go to get a cup of coffee and there is a tip jar there, that amazes me. You mean I have tip because you serve me coffee.. hmm normally I would not mind tipping it just seems that the actual tipping concept is taken a bit too far.

I agree with you, little tip can balance the big community, make the wealthy don't go so far. but now he is going so far, please leave me some real sentiments for aftertaste.

I do always give tips to the waiter. I mean its a natural thing for me to give bonus(tips) to the waiter. For me, it is a help and at the same time it is also a way of saying thank you for serving me.

I always tip the waiter but when you go to Asian restaurants (I'm Asian) .. it is generally, you do not tip the waiter and if you do it is $1 or $2 depends how many people you're with.. Not quite sure why but it's always cheap when you go to an Asian place..

I have been a waitress. It was a long time ago, but the rules allow for wait staff to be paid below minimum wage, counting on tips to make up the difference. Often income tax was taken out on a higher wage, because they assume that you make tips. I try to give ten to 15%. Sometimes more. If I cannot afford to leave a tip, I will not go to a sit down restaurant, only to fast food places.

I only eat at fast foods before and usually it's self-service so I don't have any waiter to give tips to. I only started eating at restaurants when I already have job. Our manager used to treat us at different restaurants and taught us to give tips because they did serve you. But if the restaurant have a service charge included, he told us that we don't need to give tips anymore. When we give tips, we don't really consider factors like the number of hours that stayed and the percentage of our total bill. We just give them what we have from the change and sometimes we add some if we were really satisfied. -)
