well according to the news based on a report of economists, the recession is officially over and ended last year. Based on our high unemployement and the fact that there are continuing layoffs, I think this is a joke. I sure am not better off. What about you? What do you think about this report?

We suffered from the recession up here as well, my husband had lost his job, and was unemployed for almost a year.
But he found another job, and I'm amazed at all the job postings there are in my city right now. Most of them are for temp agencies, but there are many jobs that are open, which is good.
I've been working at the same job for 3 years, and I felt the impact of the recession as business slowed down significantly when the crisis hit.
But this year, things have bounced back, and I've been quite busy, which is really good.
But yes, in other places, it's not so good yet, but it takes time to recover, even when the recession is over. It's the same as recovering from illness or injury. You still heal long after the physical injury has healed.

I dont have a regular job myself, and work predominately online. I think it is as bad now as it has ever been. I don't know anyone for whom money isn't at least something of a concern.

The Washington Post used to have a very thick job section, now there is hardly anything that is posted, and Virginia has one of the better economies in the country.

Seriously. I don't know many people who are well off during these times.

Sorry I missed that headline. I will tell my boss that I should be hired back and paid from last summer as the recession is over. Maybe he did not get the message either. I just wish people would let me know because I don't see any changes.
Then I remember that this is based on Statics and as Mark Twain said Statics never lie and liars use statics.

Funny I was just responding in another discussion about the economy in my area. It is a joke, things aren't better here. I had to close the doors on my business in June due to the economy. My boyfriends work has taken pay cuts on there contracts which means my boyfriend also has taken paycuts. I moved to this area 4 years ago and their were a few people that walked the streets begging for money, now we have so many people that walk through parking lots and standing on the street corners or right in front of the store doors asking for money. If the economy is turning around it certainly hasn't shown inprovement here.
With unemployment numbers still over 12% here I think they are sadly mistaken on the end of the recession. Just my 2 cents worth.

Yes, I think it is a joke. I think things might be better sometime, but some economic experts are even predicting a depression worse than the ones in the 1930's.

Hello,snowy!
I'm so tired of this recession and most of liars of politiciens.
i don't know how are politiciens in your country, but here,in my country they don't do anything for people. They are busy with their business and making money with just a simple signature and our lives are worse.
I think this report isn't only a joke..is a bad joke!

I think unfortunately they are pretty much the same all over. So much bureaucracy red tape and corruption just keeps anything of substance being done for the people.

I think that this is an average based on the entire country.Their are some states and city's that are in a deep recession still like Flordia and colarado.Im to in some fiancial hardship and having some problems finding work at the present.I'm currently enrolled in college as the jobs that pay the most money require some formal education from either college or university.

That is true. Good luck with your education. I think however, that the recession is bad in most states, not just Florida and Colorado.

I think the politicians are of the mindset that if they say it long enough, loud enough, it will become the truth, that if they can fool themselves into believing it, then they can fool the people into believing it. The recession is nowhere near over. We're looking at a "double dip" recession, from other sources I've read, so thank heavens that they don't all agree.

In my area, a lot of bus drivers just got laid off as there has been at least a 25 percent cut in public transportation bus service, including the elimination of Sunday service. This is due to a severe and prolonged shortage in sales-tax revenue due to so many people losing their jobs and thus not spending enough. You can't tell me that the recession is over. No, it's definitely far from being over!
