does long distance relationship works??

I wonder whether long distance relationship actually works? I have been in one long time ago, and you know what it only lasted 4 pathetic days. Are there anyone out there who currently in this kind of relationship and lasted till now?

My girlfriend lives 3 hours from me with train. We have been together 3 months now :)
