With friends like these, who needs problems?

DO you have a friend that puts you in an uncompromising situation and they expect you to understand? do you try to help your friend out in situations like that? I have this pal who is in a lot of trouble right now and i'm still torn between helping that person out or not it's already a pattern and i don't think i'd want to help that person out this time. just so they'd learn a lesson. i may lose the friendship but if they learn a lesson along the way and make their lives better in the future then i think i can rest assured that they'll be able to make it in life bottom line: i told this person to go home instead of drink since he had no money. Dan told me not to worry his girlfriend (who also doesn't have any money) who just got a credit card would shoulder the bill. i tried to dissuade them from spending cash that's not even theirs yet but the call of alcohol is stronger, so i left and went to my girl's house. that was yesterday. today at 8AM Dan texts me and asks for help cause he's in another part of town, he doesn't know where his girl is and he doesn't have any money. He expects me to go all the way there to pick him up so i said "I have work to do, you put yourself in that situation. Get yourself out of it." End of conversation. Friends are supposed to be there for one another and depend on each other but not to this extreme. I gave my advise and tried to dissuade them but they didn't listen. so am i a bad friend? what other types of bad friends are there? the borrower that never returns anything? the i don't care as long as i get mine type of friend? sheesh, there should be a friend screening test or something
