Black out / Brown out!!!!!

What do you usually do when there is brown out? Can you live without electricity? It is so boring whenever there is brown out because nowadays we rely of electronic appliances. If it is daytime, we rely on the electric fan or the aircon to cool us in the hot sunny afternoon. If it is night time then we rely on our flourescent or light bulbs for a well lighted room. We also enjoy when there is electric current since we also use it for entertainment. The television is the number one entertainment tube for the whole family. The computer addicts would definitely be weakened.lol Well, I can play my guitar so that I won't be bored when there is no electricity. Also play music in our phones or ipod so that there will be no silent night! We all have nothing to do when there is no light at the dark. The candlelight makes me sleepy so I drift myself to sleep early when there is night time brown out. But still, maybe I can't live without current since I am a busy person who loves to read and write.

Usually when the power is out for an extended amount of time, I am fine until it's night. It's usually way too hot for me at night, if it's chilly I can always throw on a blanket, but during the summer woo I don't like that. Usually I can entertain myself by merely thinking about things, just relaxing and thinking about things. At night I am also fine as long as there is light.

It's the best time to do so because it's defintiely quiet within the house, usually even my family is quieter. When I was younger we would talk amongst ourselves, and my grandmother would tell us stories.

I also like thinking about things. I love exploring my thoughts and feelings.

Hi there,, I don't really like brown outs.. Specially now because I have a kid who gets bored when she don't get to watch her favorite cartoons shows, and she can never sleep without a fan on for her.. But we have experienced a week long brown out I think, a year back during the Ondoy typhoon which flooded most areas of Metro Manila and made hundreds of human casualties, and even properties.. Back then I remember, that even candles costs pretty expensive and it's very hard to look for sticks to buy..We even bought candles from churches, you know the small and thinner sticks, just to have light during the night.. Boredom of course bothers us.. So what we did, since my husband and my siblings have no work because of the calamity, we go to Tiangge, and play games there, which can be considered simple gambling.. If we have won already then we would go home.. They operate because they have electricity supply because of generators.. If we had the chance to charge our CP's from a convenient store, we use them to play music to surpass the boredom and reduce the silence brownout brings.. I really dislike brown out, but if we have no choice at all, then we can simply get along with it..

Wow. Thank you for sharing your experience. Brown outs usually appear during a after a storm, and in your case, it is worst. We tend to look for fun and entertainment instead of shrinking ourselves in the dark. This is human instinct. So that we can survive and live a happy life. =p

Yep they happen often during or after a strong and powerful Typhoon..I just hope this year it won't happen again.. It only goes to show that we can have fun even in the dark.. For the lighter side of it.. haha.. Brown out promotes boredom, and so we must find ways to shake it off.. And by the way, thanks for the best response! Really do appreciate it..so much.

I find peace and quiet when there is a black out. We have neighbors who thinks that they are the only people in the neighborhood and just turn on their music very loudly. I like it when there's a black out cause they cant use their sound system. It is also the best time for me to go to the mall and chill.

Yeah. Silent night. The mall is the best place to chill when it all hot in the house. =p Thanks for bringing this up!

We have schedule rotating brownout in our city for 1 hour. This due to the shortage of power because Maria Cristina Falls where we get our electricity is having trouble.I don't like it but we have no choice.Maybe long ago I can leave without electricity but for now maybe it's not, because it is important to me as I am working online.I cannot use my computer if we have no electric power.

It's been years since i faced any brown out. WHen we are in that situation back then, the very first thing my mom will do is drag all of us out of the house even though i don't know why she does that. I guess she just wants to make sure it's safer out there, and also checking out the other households. If the brown out only happens to us, it will be my brother's responsibility to get it done as he's been taught before. BUt if it's the entire block, there's nothing we can do, but to stand around, chatting among the neighbours.

this is the time when i usually clean my back yard or fix the books in my room. read books, or sometimes hanging out with your friends is a good idea. They might have electricity in their home and you can stay there for the mean time.

Nice idea.... Visit a friends house. We tend to do things we can't do when there is no light, right?

hi ktmatunog, I collect candles so I light a bunch of them up so I at least have some lights. I don't mind it as long as it is not for an extended amount of time and my food goes bad in the refrig. etc. I keep myself busy reading, writing and playing cards and talking with my daughter. A couple of years ago, we had a huge ice storm. Many people were without power for weeks and that was horrible. Some had to be placed in shelters for lack of heat. It makes you stop and appreciate just how much we have come to rely on electricity in our lives thats for sure!

i can live without current if i didn't live in this apartment where i live in the city... maybe If my house stood nearby a beach or a river or a lake, and has many windows , i'll be able to survive. but i'll definitely miss my laptop and internet connection...... i know it's crazy, i wonder how the people have ever survived before without electricity, prior to its invention... but if i had to bear one whole day without electricity here at home (currently where I'm living) , i think i'll spend my time talking to my housemates, about stuff and everything..... or get busy with my books. not ebooks cause my laptop battery will probably run out.

I like to read books when the power goes out.My family has plenty of flashlights and food stocked up as well water and medical supplies.People should have 3 days of food and water 72 full hours in case of a power outage or electrical surge or blackout.Alot of people live day to day and don't buy enough food in order stay save in an emergency. It is better to be save than sorry especicaly if it is an extended outage.

Wow. Good thing you are very ready in case of a brown out. This is a good tip for this discussion. We might as well get ready instead of always complaining about this brown out thing. We can't control and we have no choice when this comes. SO it was a good idea that you brought up this topic. Thanks!

As long as my ipod is fully charged when the brown out happened then I'm good. The good side of the brown out is you'll get the chance to stop for a while from all the busyness electronic gadgets caused.

for me , what i do is to play my guitar until the electricity is restored. in my opinion, we cannot live without electricity because maybe 99% of everything we do includes electricity. in our home, in our business , Job, and anywhere we can see the application of electricity

I think so too. But the poor ones lived without electricity. We will going to live poor without electricity??

we can use the silent night to do something such as self-questioning,planing,maybe sleeping is the best way:)

Very deep thoughts - self questioning? I like it. We can do this to know ourselves more or prepare ourselves on something.

Of course I can't leave without electricity! As a computer geek, i've always wanted to be in front of the computer, programming, net surfing, chatting and reading discussions. In our world today, we need electricity on our day to day lives. why? because we are now leaving with the technology, and technology needs electricity for it to keep evolving.

I can't sleep if its brown out because there's no aircon and my kids can't sleep too. I can't live without electricity how can I watch my favorite tv programs and how can I go online if there is no electricity. My life will be boring without electricity.

It would really be boring for some who aren't used to. But those who live without power lines in the mountains, do you think they have a VERY boring life?

haha. This reminds me of our childhood days to. Well, it can be fun.. but it can be scary too. Fun for the ghost part and scary for the one being chased by or frightened by the ghost. What a fun play!

Well if there is one person who would be happy with blackouts, it would be my son because we get to play hand shadowing. It is really bonding time for us, since there's nothing to do but play and just talk about anything under the sun.

So cool! Brown outs can be a time for family bonding too! Because it is soooo boring without the lights, you can think nothing but fun and make up somethings to do!
