Respect is different from worship. During his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus instructed his followers to pray: “Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.”Luke 11:1, 2; Matthew 6:9. The first thing we learn,is that prayer, should be directed to Jesus’ Father,Almighty God. Nowhere does the Bible authorize us to pray to anyone else.
The fact that the Scriptures do not teach Christians to pray to Mary in no way implies a lack of respect for the role she played in the outworking of God’s purposes. The blessings that come through her Son will be to the eternal benefit to all mankind.

I agree with you! All prayers should be directly addressed to Almighty God through Jesus Christ. While we appreciate and respect all other servants of God, God himself decides how we should pray. There are no prayers directed to anyone else but God. He is the hearer of prayers and the One that answers prayers.

Yeah, that's right. The reason Christ is the mediator is for us to have a close relation with the creator of this universe! Thanx 4 responding.

“I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” Luke 1:38(New Living Translation)
Mary said these words to the angel who told here that she would give birth to Jesus.
She was a humble servant of God.
Nowhere in the Bible can we find any of the servants of Jehovah God directing any prayers to anyone else but our heavenly Father.
Mary was given a great position among the ones that were chosen to the heavenly government in God´s Kingdom. But there is nothing that shows that she would take over the prayer listening from God.
Mary must feel very awkward that people are praying and worshiping her and so are the others in the heavenly government who also get prayers and worship directed to them.
They are servants of God Almighty and want everyone else to be that too.

1 Timothy 2:5 says "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus..."(New International Version)
Obviously none of the servants of God could even be a mediator of prayers, not Mary, not the apostles or anyone else, except Christ Jesus.
The Bible is very clear in this.
Thanks for the BR!

Yeah buenavida, Mary sure must be feeling awkward. Mary's faith and obedience are exemplary, but that does not mean we worship her, without even knowing if we do, would they reach God in the first place. Thanx 4 ur response.

This is for Catholics and non-Catholics, Christians or non-Christians to understand. Because some Catholics are illiterate for these or don't know why.
As Catholics, We are not praying for Mary or to Mary, or to (also for) all Saints But, We together with Mary and all the Saints we are all praying and connecting to God as One thru the name or principles or methods or teachings of Jesus Christ. Because We with Mary, all the Saints and Jesus Christ are All One with God. We are all loving and serving only one God, and that's what makes as One with God.

Yes they are in the Bible but not in specific verse or literal but in the spirit of the words of God. Mary and the other saints are the symbols of our expressions for all of us as our love and serving God. Simple as that. When we say the name of Mary or saints it is not accordingly to what they are as a person or their physical attributes as a human, but to their principles, to their devotions or to their spiritual symbolic love and to serve God.
In other words, Mary and the other saints are symbolic of us, humans - in the eyes of our God. And they are all desciples of Jesus Christ, just like us also. As I always say we all as one with God, for those who love and serve God.

What is that praying to marry is not acceptable if you believe in the bible as the words of God...because Bible, denoted that we only pray directly to God, and our lord Jesus Christ, as the mediator of God, between man...
There is no rule of marry aside being the mother of our lord Jesus Christ. She never give any power nor God, give people to pray to marry...
For more details...read the bible as a whole
Have a great day!

with being taught and scriptures the WORD states. Mary is holy, but all things was given unto Jesus in Heaven and earth, and IN HIS NAME we was to ask, IN HIS NAME we was to do. ACTS:2:38 . Never judge just pray for one another in Love. careing ways. and seek first the kingdom the rest will follow..Jesus said I must be about my Father's business, He told that to Mary. Jesus first in Word and Deed..

I believe that Mother Mary prays WITH us... Just like all the saints, the Blessed Mother intercedes for us. When we pray with the help of the saints, and with the belief that Mary is by our side, our faith strengthens and we become more open to receive blessings from above. Catholics don't worship Mary, we venerate her for the very important and sacred role that she played for the salvation of mankind. And she will always be a model of purity and obedience to the will of the Father.
To Jesus through Mary.. :)

There is only one mediator-Christ for all mankind to God, that's what the Bible mentions. We cannot make up our own laws of prayer. Praying to mere humans would definitely mean putting our trust in humans, no matter how noble. But as you said, Mary definitely is a model for women, her example and obedience are exemplary. Thanx 4 responding.

the why is it that in the Holy Rosary Prayer, full of Virgin Mary is the prayer?
and why is it that Saint Joseph the father of Jesus is very very rare to be heard?
especially those majority people in the Philippine Provinces, most of their prayers are directed into Virgin Mary....
from apparition that Virgin Mary's eyes tears of blood flowing in the statue...
most of the statue that you see in the city and in the provinces are all Christ in left and Virgin Mary on the Right... where is Saint Joseph????? absent?????

Well, Catholics often pray to Mary because she is a mother, and who do we often turn to when we are in trouble? Our mother. I don't think it's wrong for people to pray to Mary because praying to Mary is basically like asking your mother for help.

why is it always Mary to pray????
i never heard praying to St. Joseph the father of Jesus....
Mary, Mary and Mary again....
St. Joseph is now getting jealous
if it's a sin to pray for the Mother of Jesus, thanks to God because no one prays for St. Joseph.....

Like I said before, Mary is a mom, and most people turn to their mothers for help when things are going wrong in their life. Sometimes, dad might be reliable, but he isn't always there like mom is. This is how it was explained to me when I used to be a Catholic. Also, it's not a sin to pray to Mary because again, it's like asking your mother for help. I have never heard of it being a sin to pray to Mary.

I should have said, it is a practice of the Roman Church, don't think other Churches indulge in it?

Perhaps you would like to expand on this a little further? I'm interested in when this began & how. To the best of my understanding, it seems the Catholic Church, at different times, both tolerated & punished praying through Mary. As reformational fervor spread, the feminine aspect of Christianity in the worship of Mary became suspect to the Church. Throughout the Middle Ages, Mary's powers were believed to effectively curtail those of the devil. But Protestants entirely dismissed reverence for Mary while reformed Catholics diminished her importance significantly. Devotion to Mary often became indicative of evil. In the Canary islands, Aldonca de Vargas was reported to the Inquisition after she smiled at hearing mention of the Virgin Mary. Inquisitors distorted an image of the Virgin Mary into a device of torture, covering the front side of a statue of Mary with sharp knives & nails. Levers would move the arms of the statue crushing the victim in an embrace against the knives and nails.
Nothing seems to be consistent! I wonder how this can be justified?

Hi keep_onwatch, i never felt some thing wrong in worship or pray to mother mary because she is the one who given birth to the Jesus. Many people worship Mother Mary for healing purpose. If you see in Valangani, Tamilnadu state, people from all over the world come there to worship her. It shows the respect towards the mother of Jesus and the faith on her. Yeah, there is no word to worship Mary in the Bible but i feel as a respect to the Jesus, we can pray to her also, nothing wrong in it. We are not loosing anything.
Have a wonderful day. God bless you and your family.

Actually Jotomy, there is harm. Moses was told when he received the Ten Commandments, Jehovah is “a God exacting exclusive devotion.”—Exodus 20:5. Also please do check out the response of Buenavida below. Thanx 4 responding.

Hey friend, I do accept that prayer should be given to God. Also you have to notice that catholic are not prating to Mary.Mary is a mediator between God and men. Catholics are not worshiping Mary. They are requesting mary to pray for them to god. There are many references in revelation about Mary. If you go through it you can understand.
It is like a son approaching his mother to get something from the father. Similar is the thing with all saints. I dont think respecting Mary or any saints is similar to praying to God.
If someone is giving more importance to Mary than God it is because of ignorance. But i am sure that Mary has a role in heaven.

Definitely Mary has a role in heavenly government as do many other faithful humans, but that does not exercise any right to pray to them. You say Mary is the mediator between God and men, but the Bible says its Jesus alone who plays that part. Well good to know ur view, thanx 4 ur response

nope, mary had bragging rights for being the biological mother of Jesus but never the right to be prayed too. even Jesus calls her woman, and not something special or holy like mother of mercy, queen of heaven, etc etc

Yeah that's right. She was a faithful servant of God, but the fact that she too got married and may be had other children, categorizes her into a normal human.

I believe after reading the bible that the only one we should be praying to is god. I think that a lot of religions dont follow that specific part of the bible that says that. I know the catholics pray to mary and I dont think its right according to what the bible says but there are many reasons that I stopped following christianity because I didnt agree with a lot of things. Each church teaches things a little bit differently and that makes things very confusing.

It doesn't matter to me. I respect what other people think about it. But in my case I just pray directly to Jesus since he is the only way to God the Father.

If we referring to the bible. Praying to Mary, is not acceptable. Because it is very clear that only Jesus Christ, is the only mediator of God,not Mary.
There is no phrase in the bible to pray to Mary. Because God, told us what is going to do when praying...

Well, I guess I have little else to add here & you already have some very convincing responses. Except to say, that I'm not entirely sure that the Catholic Church actually invented the practice of praying to Mary / through Mary/ worshiping Mary. Perhaps, & I'm just speculating here, it may have been that certain groups within the church received some or a lot of benefit from praying to or through Mary & the church was forced to establish some rules on how this was to be done to limit or control this & tolerate this practice or else run the risk of losing their members to what could be taken as a pagan practice? There are many records of people throughout the middle ages using this practice to reliably curtail the powers of the devil. That is, until the same Catholic Church began punishing people for doing that very thing.
Perhaps then, it would be a good idea for other Christians to also tolerate Catholics in this area & for Catholics to likewise not accuse other Christians of a lack of respect just because they refuse to practice what the Catholics do. I don't believe the Catholic Church actually forces Catholics to pray to or through Mary, at least not originally, as I've shown elsewhere, but I'm not Catholic, so I'm not up to speed on the latest detailed Catholic practices.

the only problem to Roman Catholics based on what i finally observed is...
that majority of the Roman Catholics only believed on SUPERSTITIOUS BELIEFS especially those Roman Catholics living in the Provinces... and many of them living in the City too....
Roman Catholics believed in:
1. Horoscopes and Zodiacs
2. Nuno sa Punso, about the dwende or dwarf in order to defend "Tabi Tabi Po"
3. Traditional Practices during Pregnant Mother, Wedding, Burial
4. You have to carry Ginger or luy-a when travelling with babies to defend from supernaturals
5. Santa Clause who defies the law of nature, doesn't enter your door but prefer to enter thru chimney like a thief does
6. Santo nino: red carp dress used for prayers, green carp dress used for business
7. May Friday the 13th, bad luck day for Roman Catholics
8. Chain Letters, when passed a good fortune recieve; ignore? a bad luck will receive.
9. Apparitions like forming the clouds or marks in the tree trunk like a face of Jesus...
10. Holy Rosary when pray a repetition for plenty of times...
Note:
most of the Christian Religions are not into this except for majority of Roman Catholics only.....
