Why do bosses try to degrade their team members even when the guys are worth praising. Is it because of the inferiority in them or just because the boss is always right?

I'm sure there are many that think they are always right and you are either on the same page as their opinions or not. I don't think people get praised enough! We have a lil system in place for us to praise our co-workers at my job wich is nice. Only I don't think enough people use it.
