I have seen this many times, users around here in the age group of 35+ would keep their avatar like 18+ as if to get more attraction from other users.. I have seen some users who are much elder, but they are very good and keep their avatar like nice things, but surely not the avatar of young cine stars.. Why some are more interested in cine star avatars? that too 35+ ?? they can keep their own avatar or some nice pics or different things...But why do they wanna show themselves like young cine stars .. I have seen many like this..

I don't blame them for using younger looking pictures as many of us who are aging lotters do not have picture worthy faces that fits the screen. But since gravity has not disfigured my face, I still have the real me in my avatar. I would change that soon so I be more attractive to my spectators.

Some people like the way that they looked when they were younger, and that is the way that they would like to be seen. I don't think that is a bad thing, especially if that is the way that they still act and view themselves. Some people actually like the way that they look better as they age, because they might have been "awkward looking" when they were younger, but age has matured their features and made them more physically attractive (at least in their opinion, but I have seen this happen with people as well). If they are proud of the way they look at any age, then I don't think it is a bad thing.

Hi purple, I agree with you on that as people age some will shine and their best features will glow to the like of monalisa or Our Lady. Not all oldies are haggard. Some don't even look their age.

So, what is an "appropriate" avatar for someone over the age of 35? What is an "appropriate" avatar for someone younger than 35? What if the person uses a picture of themselves, and they look a lot younger than they are - is that still inappropriate and not showing self-respect? I am just not understanding the correlation between the apparent age of a picture in an avatar and the supposed age of the user. If you said that you think that guys using scantily-clad female avatars and pretending to be woman was inappropriate, then I would be more inclined to agree with you. Maybe I am just not understanding what you are trying to say, though.

Actually, i'm concentrating on the image.. Why do someone possibly wanna decrease their age and show to others.. Keeping an appropriate image based on the age is highly impossible, but there should be something related or similar..

But what do you consider similar or related in age? I mean, I like some actors and actresses in their sixties and seventies, and I also like some that are in there teens and twenties. If I chose to use a famous person as an avatar, I would most likely choose a guy that I liked, since I would want to see that avatar when I am posting. If I did choose an actor as an avatar, then you are saying that I should find out how old he is and choose one that is close to my age? I just don't understand why that should matter.

Mel, you make an excellent point here that I had not even thought about mentioning, but I am very glad that you brought it up. At one point, I was seriously thinking about using a picture of my sister as my avatar on here. Of course, that would have given up my anonymity, and it definitely would not have been to gain attention, but I just miss her and wanted to use it. I decided against it for my own reasons, but that is a perfect example of why a person would choose to use a picture of someone else as an avatar, and age (and gender) makes absolutely no difference in the choice.

I don't think it is a problem. Anybody can choose their own favorite photos as their avatars. As to me, I even chose my son's photo and isn't this photo the youngest?:) I chose my son's photo as my avatar because I love him and he is so important for me. I love China

I don't mind what other user's avatar is. As long as they're great to hang out with, it's fine with me.

It's their freedom, but everybody should have some self-respect....35 year old using an avatar of 20 years old cine actress....Is this a good sign..?? I respect elders very much..I care for them, but this kind is somewhat tricky for me.. i don't know what happened to the self-respect things??

I don't understand why you think that people that use avatars of others that are younger do not have self-respect. Would it be better if they used a picture of an actor or actress that was their own age? What if they used a picture of someone that was older. Would they be disrespecting themselves if the person was the same age or older? I just do not understand how using an avatar of someone else equals not having self-respect unless the avatar is inappropriate, such as scantily-clad verging on x-rated or doing perverted things or whatever.

I think guna means self-preservation. Self-respect is way off here. Lol. Guna, we're allowed to put avatars so we have the freedom to choose whatever pictures we wish. Remember the movie avatar by james cameron?

I like my avatar, guna. My age has got nothing to do with my avatar and what the other people's reasons are, their problem. TATA.

I am getting the impression that you expect people who are 35 to look old. Many people look very young at 35. My husband is 30 and sometimes still looks 18 if he wears jeans and a t-shirt. I am 24 and many people think I am 16.

I think we have to be little optimistic here !!! The face really shows up ... Even if u use advanced skin care and make up with multi facials .. 30 years will never look like 18, and 24 years will never look like 16... So, u are trying to say that u both are looking like high school students graduating next year? Let me try mine.. I am actually 21 year old and i look like 8 years when i wear shorts and sleeve less tee's And, according to ur criteria , i 'm 21 and many people think i'm 15 ..

Dear friend, I feel it a part of freedom of choice, may be there are lots of people who are young at heart. I feel it depends upon one's freedom of choice. As if age is no barrier in love, I feel age is no barrier in selecting any avatar.
