A recent annoying development at my house is the fact that my dog has taken to standing at the edge of the yard and barking his head off. I saw that a neighborhood had built something recently, and thought that was the trigger, but no...he has a dog in his yard (something he usually barks at but not constantly) but that dog is quiet. My boyfriend said there is another dog barking a mile away. I don't know, but I am getting tired of this. Why is my dog barking, and what can I do about this? suggestions? no money for an antibark collar or anything, nor do I think I want one.

For ours, when they are inside atleast, we say ah (you know that noise that means no) and then we say "You know better then that" and there attention usually gets to us, if not then I go and pick one of them up and the other usually follows.
For outside, it's harder to control because they usually chase after whatever they're barking at, which means we have to chase them and say get back here... etc...
I would suggest just trying to distract the dog with a toy.

Dogs bark for the oddest reasons.
There must be some kind of training
that you could give a dog to make him
not bark anymore.
I don't have dogs, just cats.
But, they are equally noisy, since they
stay indoors.
My cats come up to my bedroom door
at night and early in the morning and
scream their heads off so that I will
get up and give them food.
I'm not saying the dog is hungry.
I just think he detects some kind
of threat not visible to human eye.
I'm sure the issue will resolve
spontaneously.

Good Morning dear Snowy22315 , ohhh i have the same thing here with my little cute dog , actually thankfully , my little girl ( dog ) , it barks when another female dog its entering in the house or in the cofee bar , because she is a verry gealous nature , she is treated like a human baby and she is verry spoilled , but she is verry listening , and if i tell her to stop barking she simply stops , as for your case , far from me to suggest you such a stupid think as a anti barking collar , because those are simply dangerous for the dogs and its causing them problems , i think that you need to try and train your dog , to listen to you when you tell him to stop barking , but even soo , try to think that this is the dogs way to comunicate with eachother ( the barking ) , and putting an anti barking collar its like taking a human the right of freedom of speach ; as long as at night he doesnt barks , i dont really think that it is such a big problem.
I hope that you will mannage to find a solution to your problem , and a pacific solution would be even better.
I wish you a great day dear friend and wish you all the best

Interrupt the act. go out with the dog on a leash and if he starts barking interrupt him in doing so. Three things to remember with dogs they need discipline first, exercise second and affection third. Something is causing him to be out of balance and you need to observe him to see what it is. Interruption and correction of the behavior is best.
