Advantage of going to boarding School

Last night I watched this documentary on British school kids from 7 year-old onwards going to a boarding school, being so far away from parents. What exactly is the added value? Do the boys need to be independent at such a young age?

I try to search about the disadvantage of this school but so far they jist tell me the advantage kids who school here are more diligent and smart than the kids who school in regular school that is so far i can know

I don't think I would have wanted to go to boarding school so I don't think I would do that to my kids, but If thats what they wanted I would do it. It has to be the independence factor, and learning to handle things without your parents coddling you.
