Is it really worth hosting a major sporting events???

Funnily my husband and I were discussing this last night when we were watching the news from India about the Commonwealth Games and the problems there are. We both agreed that these types of games havea become too grand , commercialised and expenseive. When you think that in 1948 - just after the second world war -and when London was virtually destroyed Britain hosted the Summer Olympics. Now adays there has to be big fancy stadiums and openeing and closing ceremonies that get fancier and fancier - let's get back to the sport!!

Hi, Yes i agree with u completely. Its not worth at all. India is a country where millions are not able to feed themselves twice a day cant afford to compete with anyone. We should be looking at fulfilling Indian people's demand first and then think about sporting competitions. Just like this CWG i believe IPL is another such event where huge money is being invested and wasted. I wonder when our government has so much surplus fund why can't they improve our infrastructure, living habits and also the basic amenities where we are lagging far behind. In my opinion hosting of such events in our country is matter of shame. Cheers, Tutul

Yes I agree. But instead of saying india. I think we must say we are not ready. We can go for agitation for getting reservation in jobs. But no body came against the corruption in the games. Country has spent more than the Biezing Olympic but we could not get the positive result due to corruption. I think the common man must throw those corrupt people out from the country. Rest you can see the Jaat community is threatening the government that they will not let the game continue peacefully. What they way they have. I think in reaction government must ban the community in government jobs and put an example rather than doing politics. We are just the victim of politics and money.

I think now 10 days to go starting of commonwealth game in India. And if I say truly then Delhi is not fully ready for this event. Because many works also not finished. And also the situations of floods are their. So how can Delhi handle this event next month? There are also problem of security measure. And many players get back their name from this event. So on International level it is bad for our country. So now we can only hope that everything may fine.

Hi,ashutoshs8 I am from China and I think u are very clear about what the government will do as well as the releventing stake .That is very good.This kind of big elevents which wastes money and man power are called as 'face' project.In my opinion,there is need for the government to compare with other countries for different countries have diferent national situation and issues to deal with and there is only one mission shared by all and that is striving for the welfare of its people.

asuhtosh, this will be a big shame if we are hosting something this big, and everything seems to stuck in the mid, today only 10 are left in CWG and as you know flood and half constructed halls and stadiums. god bless india
