Press control and alt simultaneously. Try that. It works for a lot of keyboard problems. If that does not help check whether the language settings are correct with the language your keyboard is supposed to use.

Tried control + shift too? --- - - - - - - -- - - - - - On the right hand side you'll see an abbreviation. Here it is NL ( netherlands) Check whether that is the same as your keyboard. Your keyboard is likely American.

Tried Control + Shift too, still not working. And NO, I don't have NL abbreviation on the right side of my keyboard.

It is really annoying and strange problem on your computer. You should try another keyboard on your computer to isolate the cause of this problem. If the other keyboard does not have the same problem, it means the problem is due to the keyboard hardware and if the other keyboard also have the same problem, I would suggest you to format the computer to easily get rid of this problem. If you can not get another keyboard to check on your computer, you can use this keyboard on your friends computer and check if it works fine. Which operating system is installed on your computer?

Oh, that was really quick!!! I would suggest you to try using the virtual keyboard in Windows XP and check if the problem with the keys persist. Use this URL to launch the virtual keyboard on your screen: www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/accessibility/oskturnonuse.mspx Alternatively, I would suggest you to try downloading and installing the Ubuntu operating system on your computer. You can install it just like any other application. I mean, the way you install MS Office, PDF reader or any game etc. Once Ubuntu is installed, you will get two operating systems in the list when your computer starts. Choose Ubuntu at the startup screen, once you have logged in, try to type in the text editor and check if the keyboard is working fine. If you wish to un-install Ubuntu at any point of time, start your computer with Windows XP OS and then go to "Add or Remove programs" window and remove "Ubuntu" from the list, just like you un-install any other installed application. Ubuntu is free version of Linux and it has got very good user interface, you will not have problems in using Ubuntu. Use this URL for downloading Ubuntu: www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

Is it the same ++++++++++ regardless of what programme you're typing in?? Or is it only in say an i nternet browser or document?

Sorry then, I'm really puzzled. Try plugging in a USB keyboard. Also try updating/reinstalling your keyboard drivers. Good luck.
