Comcast owns everything!!

Where we live we can only get 3 kind os cable. Comcast Digital Cable, Dish Network and Direct TV. We aren't allowed to have satellite where we live so we have to have comcast. Hubby called a cable place close by and they do service our area but when he asked who our old company was an hubby said Comcast, the guy sighed and said they own the lines. Hubby doesn't understand how Comcast can own all the lines in our area. Doesn't seem fair to me that they are our only option.
