I placed my comment on a started discussion that baffled me a bit.
A new member was asking for help on how they can earn. So naturally have been around the block here on myLot I give some, what I think is avid advice. Here is how it always goes:
Always, always start quality discussions, myLot will not tolerate rubbish and or trying to gain referrals so never, ever post referral links in your discussions. The first response to your discussion here will be deleted as this is prohibited. And anyone replying to that set of discussion will get their replies also deleted.
When you start discussions, always, always respond to the members who commented on your discussions. You will not earn just because you posted a discussion. In other words. You start the discussion, I respond, I earn. You comment back you earn. SIMPLE and remember the more members respond, the more you comment back, you earn more.
Have fun Best tip I can offer is keep myLotting and having fun. I hope your stay with myLot is a successful one.
So tell me why this (2) post member replies back to me that I have it all wrong. myLot does not pay for responding back to their very own started discussions. Okay so wait when we interact with people in life do we really simply say a one liner than stare into space and never emulate another word? hmmm .. Noticed today that in one day the same member now has 76, with sbsolutely no interaction.
Call me silly but not only do I cash out monthly with myLot I have also gained a great deal of knowledge here...
Are new myLot members and not so new members who have never grasps myLot concept, drawn into myLot simply to post hundreds of started discussion, with absolutely no interaction whatsoever.. hmm wonder if their life personal friends appreciate them as much??

I don't know myself if you actually get paid for responding to comments on your own post, but I look at it this way. Responding to people who comment you is polite, and in turn probably prompts them to either comment you again, or to continue to comment your posts. So in this way it keeps you in good terms with other members and keeps everyone responding to each other. Also, you get paid more for the more detailed, quality responses.
I hardly post any discussions. I mostly respond to people here. But my responses are detailed and informative, or at least as detailed and informative as I can make them. I also try to respond to most comments left to me, but I do it out of politeness, not because I think it's going to earn me more. Sometimes there's nothing else to say other than thank you, and I don't think they're paying for us to say thank you to every commenter that responds to us since that doesn't really lend anything to the actual discussion.
Hope this helped! :)

Yes, I agree in that if there is more to say, definitely say it and keep things going! :) I have seen that as well. I am not on here that much, but I can definitely see which days I do better, even with less actual activity, simply by the discussion that happens in one or two posts.
I will have to say that as far as learning, however, I tend to be more in a position of being someone who has a lot of answers more than I am actually learning here myself. But I like doing that, and I like sharing what I do know with people who have questions, so in that sense it works out great. :) I have been here two years but I only got really active in the past two months. Bored, I was looking for something to do a few minutes a day in my down time before or after work, and I have enjoyed answering people's questions or giving their opinions. My replies are usually pretty long as well, so I know that's helped me earn more for the small amount of time that I am on the site. :)

I agree with Shira. My intentions for commenting back is really to show politeness and to be able to reach out to people. It would be plastic to say that I am not for the earning but really it only comes second.

Reason why our answers are always pretty long is because we always have quality comments and this is why we decide to comment as opposed to thinking that we could actually earn.
I enjoy being here a great deal as it has given me a lot of knowledge as to different customs and or simply how others think. I also get a great deal of satisfaction knowing that I have perhaps guided someone to even take a second thought to certain situations.
To me it is more about the interactions as opposed to simply earning a few cents.
Happy myLotting.

Oops sorry, sweetie.
Strange how they actually know more than we do.
We have been there, done that and have the friends to show it, though.
If they think like that and don't want to be helped, what should we do?
Spank them?
Don't let them get to you, okay.
I wish my MD was here, already.

There are some people that are on mylot strictly for the money...which is really sad. Yes this is a social networking place where you can earn money and that is a bonus. But it is a social network! You need to be social. Of course we would all like to earn money, but I think what makes mylot unique is that you can meet some wonderful people. I like that the fact that if I am having a bad day, I can come on here and get a great laugh, or hear something inspiring. I think certain people would change there attitude a little bit and truly participate they would be earning money without even realizing it. Lately I have been reading certain discussions (from people that are clearly in it only for the money). The start a discussion and two or three days later they pretty much reword the entire discussion and repost it. And of course, there are those yes and no questions that most of us on here can't stand. I think you, hardworkinggirl, have a great attitude here on mylot you always post quality discussions and quality responses and I feel that is what makes you the money here. I know there are times when I don't want to respond to some of the discussions that aren't even thought out. I am glad I never have that problem with any of yours....keep up the hard work!! Have a super day!

hardworkinggurl, As a relatively new member, I would like to thank you for helping me understand how this site works. I could have sworn that I read somewhere in the fine print that responding to "responses" on your own discussions does not earn you points. Perhaps now I will be able to earn more as well. Thank you for your insight!

I think what the guidelines provides that does not earn points is when you reply to the comments with just a "thank you", or "thanks for you response". But if your reply is with substance, you still earn the points.

@cbar you are very welcome, it give me great satisfaction daily to be able to assist any members as I was once new also.
@ glory - Yes the guidelines specifically says it is prohibited to respond with yes or Thanks these responses will get deleted.
I have done a great deal of reading from many veterans here and I have invested a great deal of time as to what works best and I have to say the veterans are more than correct.
I sort of wanted to distinguish what these well over 20,0000 post members were saying to a test and literally I have gained a lot of knowledge and from them. As I did a test as to how many I can post vs my responding vs simply responding and believe me it is a science, one that the veterans made a great deal of sense and well based on my earnings I make a great deal of sense as well, at least to me.
However, there have been a great many responses that never go touched and if I have something valuable I definitely do as I enjoy sharing my wisdom.

By merely posting a discussion and not commenting back doesn't make him earn anything.
But I also have doubts on this, to be really honest. Sometimes, I start a discussions and only come back the next day to comment back to the responders and when I check my earnings, it has actually jocked up.
Could it be possible that we do earn from starting a discussion, getting responded and commenting back? Or were those earnings came from the responses I made to other topics on that same day I started my own topic?

For me if i feel like replying to a discussion i have posted or i have commented is also saying that hey im not selfish, il give you a piece my time,my mind, something that represents my being.Something that tells me that im not just talking with a computer but a real person from another side of the world. Its even nice to even butt in from other peoples discussion, somtimes its good to interact as long as they are polite and there is a connection with the topic right?
I think theres a possibility that by adding respones or commenting back, or following up on a topic is a good way in increasing your earnings. This is just my opinion too of course based on my observations.
@hardworkinggurl-What does it mean to track anyway?Just asking if you want to elaborate. Thanks!

Personally maybe this is a member who has never or never will grasp the importance of responding back to their own discussions to try and keep them going. I know I used to never realize that you earn by responding back to others discussions as well as when you respond to others, and starting New discussions. Too many times that is a harder one to grasp as well as the quality thing. And then most of the time, these seem to be the first ones to leave myLot often complaining this site is a SCAM or not worth being a part of as well.

Yes it is a shame on how some just do not give myLot a chance. Sadly a great many do come here by misleading articles. It is hard to get through a great many of them no matter how hard we try, but such a treat to see that some actually do listen from time to time and really change their participation styles here.
We can only hope that anyone who does come here really enjoys their stay and become long time veterans just as yourself.

I understand your fusteration. I have tried numerous times to explain to people that just making the discussion is why they arent earning much in mylot. I have tried to tell people that commenting to the responses makes them more money but unfortuantly most people dont want to hear that. I think some of it has to do with they look at peoples post numbers, they think post numbers means you earn more. There are people here on the lot with lots of post numbers because they think that making a bunch of short posts is the way to make money.
I have been a member on the lot for four years. I have cashed out 6 times during my time here. I just spend more time responding to comments made on discussions than posting comments myself. I think like I said the problem is that people look at post count and think it means more money. Sadly they are the first to complain about the earnings here on the lot.

Unfortunately it gets like that. Thank you fore saying that. I appreciate you as well. I think those of us that are here for the right reasons need to stand together. I had someone once make a horrible post about me because she took something I had said out of context and continued to berate me every chance she got for a while. I am glad at the time I had really great friends that stood up for me and Helped me through the attack I was under. Don't let the bad apples get you down. they don't know any better. I have read a great deal of discussions about people being trolled and I think it is completely awful that anyone would simply troll and intentionally rate negatively only and simply because they feel that either the person did not agree and or because they think a person is making more earnings.
I have been dropping by the day this week simply because my response was not understood, I have been shocked with the PM I received asking for forgiveness that I was rated negative because they had difficulty understanding my "so proper English". In short of 6 weeks now I have noticed the new members infestation causing my feelings about myLot to be a bit ugly.
I did not think I would actually feel this way as I so appreciate the wonderful members as your self that have contributeed such valueable responses, discussions and time. It is however getting uglier by the day.

People who are trying to get referrals are known to exaggerate to get people to sign up. Not a good thing, as those people get upset and then leave. If people were honest about the site, at least the people who come here would be the ones who are genuinely interested in it!

So true. Just today in doing a bit of research I came upon article after article with information that all one had to do was simply post as they would to Mylot or Facebook. This is very misleading indeed! I know that when I first came to Mylot one of my mistakes was to simply respond to EVERY those on my friends list had started. That led to many threads being deleted, and in me losing valuable time. I'm a bit more picky now about the threads I respond to, but I also still respond to newbie threads to help out but do not take those into consideration when setting my writing goals for each day.

Too funny now as I went to search and the member no longer exists. hahaha.. I suppose all the comments I have received were so rightly stated as this was on Monday and now it is Friday and either the member left disappointing or was kicked off by myLot.
However above there are a couple who feel we do not earn when we respond but I am sure to direct you if ever I get another quirky remark like that.
I truly believe many newbies that are signing up recently have been misguided by referrals giving misleading information as I have several new members on my member list that start 20 - 30 discussions a day and never comment to people with great quality comments to their ever so meaningless discussion.
I am going to go back and check my responded discussions and see where I can post this discussion as although the member is gone the discussions remain maybe perhaps this can be brought back up to light so new members get correct information.

I'm surprised Diana is not already all over this thread! The sad fact about any forum type communication is that there are always those who just simply said need to be right. Even if they are not correct, they will argue until the end that they are correct. Now, my experience with Mylot is that it is a combination of both quality and quantity. The FAQ's pretty much outline what we need to know and if one selects the "contact us" link they can be directed to the appropriate section to answer their questions regarding just how Mylot works. Keep in mind that Mylot admits openly to using a formula to determine earnings. So one cannot say exactly what another will earn and how they earn because we are not privy to the exact formula. I'm sure it would not be hard to find, again it is all stated in their FAQ's.

Most either eventually learn after duplicated mistakes and or leave after several disappointments. As they are misguided by those that referred them to begin with.
Mysd, from I understood from another discussion is out of town and soon she will be back and convey her so welcome wisdom. I began to inquire about her disappearance once I noticed so many repetitive and violations being performed and still lingering, that when I knew she has not been around.

Actually I went from 97 to 95...Ugh and can I tell you coincidentally I may drop even more just for today. So a new member who happens to be on my friend lists ask a question about whether or not it is okay that a parent dictate what the child's career should be yada, yada.
Anyways I have two wonderful college graduates, which by the way my son going out to an out of state college generated $140K in college loans right but since his freshman year in high school he says to me he wants to go to this out of state college I encouraged him all the way and knew at the time it was going to cost 3 times more than your in-state student right, but being the wonderful supportive mom, and by the way my son graduated with 4.0 GPA all four years at this school. Okay so being that this member is a friend on my list. I feel I can contribute by saying that sometimes parents try to live out their dreams through their children and are a bit harsh in imposing and dictating their own wishes instead of listening to the children. Ok so tell me why this member replies to me with my answer that I think it is okay for a parent to crush the child's dream. Wha, wha, wha what...What the heck did he read.
Ugh so he misunderstands my comment by like 180 degrees, not sure that he understands reading proper English. Long story short I get an apology over it right but in the interim he stated he negatively rated me as he misunderstood. WHAT!!!
As for starting a discussion you may run the risk of having it deleted as I want to say 2 months ago a veteran did start a similar discussion which I had commented on it the entire well over 80 comments got deleted.
Yes, I have noticed within 6 weeks or so myLot is being completed infested by really ugly behavior, I have been trying to remain loyal to my so loyal myLot members but it is getting harder by the day.

whether we get paid for or not when we post our comments, the best mindset we can have here is to enjoy sharing our opinions.although one of the main reasons we are here is to earn, it's still not a good idea to count our posts as equal to the number of cents we get paid for. you might get frustrated if you realize that's not how it exactly works in MyLot.
I started here just a few days over a week now and to be honest i got a bit off when i saw a few cents on my first days for a multitude of posts made. but hey, what made it better is the fact that people appreciate the responses i gave them and in a way, made a few friends already from a few exchanges of knowledge and honest opinions. i just had to realize that being in mylot isn't all about earning, period. quality of responses get compromised if all we think of while posting is earning. we lose the genuine and purest thoughts we can share because we are counting how much credit we will be given based on our posts.
as for hardworkinggurl, yeah i still want your help :)everytime i see a comment from her to any of my discussions, i always have a smile on and tell myself, i'm going to learn another great idea from her. :)

I am a fairly new member here to myLot but I know exactly what you mean. It takes awhile to get the grasp of what makes a good thread and what doesn't but you definately have to partiicpate in the threads that you yourself have started, it only makes since.
When I respond to a discussion and get no reply, then I seldom repost and if I find that's the trend of the poster I often advoid topics started by that member. Also, I know what you mean by too many posts on topics that go no where. I have some topics that don'y fly as I am sure even the best myLoters do but I try to to make my post interesting and something I think others may like to add to. Some flood the boards, as they post several posts per hour assuming I suppose that the more you post the more you earn Not so, those members should perhaps reread the guidelines.
I agree with you hardworking, you must give the threads you create some thoght as well as the ones you respond to. I have responded a lot to your post hardworking because I find that what you have to say is interesting, and because I feel that you are reading my responses and responding with relevant information, not simply a yeah ok response.

I get a great deal of daily satisfaction each time I respond to discussions. I have a rule that if I have no relevance I will not respond. I will risk deletions if even I feel my response is worth enough to have allowed someone to gain something.
I thank you for all your responses and do find that your discussions also have allowed me to continue to develop my knowledge and also share some wisdom.

I think when I first started MyLot a few days ago I was under the same illusion- that it was more about the number than the quality; that the only way to earn would be to collect as many comments as possible. But, of course, I know that's not true. I think that's just what I was thinking at the time because it seemed concrete, you know?
Of course now I realize it is quality over quantity and I am sure that this person will realize it too :)

Here is how I see it, most members sign-up either because they were told all you have to do is post and you get paid or told by others it was simply a make a lot of money site.
Unfortunately people like this member basically will either learn from the errors and or give up and not return.
I was one of the members that was told just post about anything, although I have to say I took almost a month reading more so than anything as I would be so involved in the reading only part that most of my available online time was devoted to that. But I do appreciate it know as I picked up a great deal of knowledge by doing just that.
