It seems that the new trend for celebration cakes, especially wedding cakes is to have displays of cup cakes.
This is a picture of the latest wedding cake my daughter has made, it has just one tier of cake with a display of cupcakes underneath it.
All the flowers that she has made for the cake are edible.
I would imagine that this type of cake is better for sharing out the cup cakes.
Would you prefer a traditional 3 tiered cake or cup cakes like this?

i think this cake would be easier when it comes to passing out to guest. Its a beautiful cake. She is very talented. Is this what she wants to do as a career or just a hobby?

Hmm. That's a tough question! I mean, I like the whole traditional cake cutting at a wedding and feeding it to their partner, but then again, the cupcakes are so darn cute! Maybe I'd go for a cake AND cupcakes, like the picture shows so we can still cut the cake, but dish out the cupcakes easier. I guess cupcakes will be easier if you're on a tighter budget as well. It'd be kind of cute though to have a wife and husband feed each other a faceful of cupcakes!
Actually, I might go with that idea!

A number of years ago, a gal told me about a friend of hers who was also acutely allergic to corn, so she couldn't eat powdered sugar either. They ground up some sugar to make some of it powdered and had that section placed so she would eat only that piece during the cake eating.
So, I can see that cupcakes would be good, they could have a single one (marked so she knows which one it is) for someone like me who can't have powdered sugar...

Hi oldchem, there are new, fresh and more creative ideas lately when it comes to cakes. It won't hurt me to be traditional, but making unique choices in the future would be great.

Yes, I have seen this as well (I am planning my own wedding at the moment, so I pay more attention to this than most, I guess) and I think it is quite lovely. I might even do this myself if I can just find someone to do it. I never went to a wedding with this kind of "cake" though, I would love to see one in real life!
How come your daughter made such a cake? Is that her job or something? Either way, she is clearly very talented!

I like it! I think it's cute and how easy is this to give to your guests! Your daughter did a nice job. I would do this if I was getting married again and I'm going to tell my youngest daughter about this. She'll probably like it too.

i think i'd prefer this,....not only is it unique, it gives a different look to a wedding cake and may "wow" some wedding attendees who haven't seen such a design...it's not a very popular design here in where i live,, so it has a touch of originality ....i like it.

Hi there! I've seen wedding cakes made of cupcakes, too. I think they're okay. Aside from it is quite unique it is also neat especially when it comes to serving it to your guests. You don't have to slice and have to serve them individually because guests can simply pick the cupcakes and have fun tasting and eating the cakes. But from what I've heard, wedding cakes made of cupcakes are more expensive as these are prepared individually. Still the choice will depend on the preference of the newly wedded couple. :D Have a good day and happy mylotting!

for my wedding, when i will have it:D, i will have a small special extreamly nice cake to cut in front of all people, and i will put on the table cakes made allready cut but with the same composition like the Big cake. At weddings i went to, i always got a very small piece of cake because there wasn't enought for everybody and i want to avoid this happening at mine :)
