how does RANKING help?

You get a star when you have 100 responses, the number which is in brackets next to your name. I don't think that helps you with your earnings, only with your reputation. How does this work? I am not sure, but I think it is how your responses are rated by others. Maybe many best responses and "pluses" will increase your reputation and many "minuses" will decrease it. But I am not sure, it is just a guess.
