My 3 aunts and my mom have type 2 diabetes. They are all taking their medicines for maintenance of blood sugar level. Sometimes, they compare notes and their doctor's prescription. My mother in law has diabetes, too. She has been hospitalized because of the complications it brought to her. I kept thinking on how can I prevent myself from getting that disease. I don't want to listen to my sis in law because according to her, she will definitely get that disease, so why should she deprived herself of those sweets around her. I don't know if she has it now, her lower limbs started to darken. Self-realization and a simple twist of lifestyle, no, not simple that could be really very hard but I hope I can manage to change it gradually. How about you, do you have history of diabetes in your family? Can you share things you are doing or food you're eating to prevent it? Thank you.

Type 2 Diabetes runs in my family too. I guess it's common among minorities. My mother has it. Also both maternal grandparents and my paternal grandmother had it. She required insulin. Diet and exercise are important. Maintaining a healthy BMI and small waistline will help. There has been a link between dirty electricity (given off by certain electronics and wireless devices like cell phones) and increased blood sugar. I think these are kind of hard to avoid but you can switch from compact fluorescent bulbs to incandescent or LED bulbs and avoid dimmer switches. well i know one thing for sure that there is always a way. if u have a genetic tendency to get diabeties. it does not mean that u cant prevent it. so first dont be afraid that u will have diabetes for sure. second thing if u eat extra sugar u will not have diabetes its a myth ya of course it will help to get the decease. my grand father had diabetes abotu 440( normal is 140) but it was but he did some things i will tell u and now he does not have it. first he did breathing exercise for half an hour daily. also did some aerobic exercise.. second thing eat water rich food means fruits and vegis. eating salad with every meal. third he use to keep a watch on what he eats with what. i mean food combination (i will tell u what how it is done)... it looks like complecated but its not. if u really what to know all about it u can tell me. i can assure u. that u will be healthy for a long time... i am not a doctor but i have use this in my life and seen other peoples life also. thanks

Hi kristeena, actually type 2 diabetes although it runs in the family is still preventable. Yes it starts with controlling sweets, next, fats.
I have read an article that our cell walls are made up or contains fatty acids. If my memory serves me well, it was Omega 3.
But our diet now is very rich in Omega 6 which is a harmful fatty acid. So instead of Omega 3 in our cell walls, we have Omega 6. Because of that glucose in our blood can not penetrate the cell wall and into the cells.
No, diabetes does not run in our family. Cancer does.
