I was watching a cable show called Cats 101 on Animal Planet and I was suprised to learn that cats hear better than dogs something like 3x better or more forgot how much it was exactly. But they said they can hear a mouse running from many yards away I wish I could remember the exact measurements I watched the program several weeks ago. But it was interesting to know none the less I know my JINX seems to hear everything his ears are always rotating back and forth to pick up background noises you can't sneak up on him thats for sure.

I remember hearing that. Both cats and dogs have better hearing and smell than humans, but cats hear better than dogs and dogs smell better than cats. I had a cat named Jinx.

Your cats don't chase mice? I know my Jinx would love to hunt mice he chases everything that comes into the house that moves , flies,crickets,etc.. although we don't have any mice I'm sure he would great at catching them cats are natural predators they love to stalk their prey

I do think that cats have got great hearing,as you can see their ears pop up when they hear my children moving about in their beds, before the dogs hear them,or us saying that.I think that alot of cats are great at catching all those mice,as they hear them before they see them.I think that cats have strong sense of smell, aswell. as they can smell the chicken that i have put in the fridge to defrost aswell before it is defrosted.

Hi Jugs Wow I surely didn't know they could smell frozen food I guess I learn something new every day. I do know that my Jinx can smell a can of tuna as soon as I pop the lid it I don't even have to take off the top and he is right there looking at tme licking his chops, even if he all the way downstairs or even sleeping he is able to do this

Cool! I noticed that cat's hearing are great, better than dog's but I think they can really hear a lot. When I get a new cat, I'll make sure not to put on loud music and noises so as not to damage their ears!

Hi KNIC Not sure that would damage their ears unless you listen to some extremely loud music most likey they would just leave the room my cat tolerates loud music it all depends on how loud... but he doesn't like sudden loud noises and he hates the vaccume cleaner

I have two cats and both have a great sense of hearing. I remember reading some years ago, that if humans could hear what cats hear we would go mad. It seems that they hear so much all the time, that they have become experts at filtering out what is not necessary for them.
