Students, which do you prefer; discovery where you have to learn other things by yourself or thru spoonfeeding (where you expect your professor to teach you everything? Teachers: What method did you use on your students? Which do you think is more effective in education?

Some subjects just need the students to be taught everything slowly. There should be no room for interpretation. Otherwise, students are going to be lost a lot of the time and it is going to be a chore. Unfortunately, teachers who would be good for those subjects where students are on their own, are teaching those subjects where there needs to be liberal amounts of spoon feeding. However, there are many subjects that do need to be spoonfed. Many more, it is good to leave some room for the students to explore. And the teacher for that matter. Sticking to a rigid lesson plan is not going to make the class good. It is just going to make it tedious and a nightmare to deal with. Therefore, there are many more subjects that are going to need to give some room. So it depends on the subject, but there are both kinds and I prefer them when they fit the situation.

Of course I will go for the discovery type and spoonfeeding. I think, a mixed approach is the best way for students to effectively learn. In my school, we have the discovery learning approach and spoon feeding in certain subjects, and I think it is working well for most of us.:)
