It is generally agreed that society benefits from the work of its members. Comparing the contributions of artists to society with the contributions of scientists to society, which type of contribution do you think is valued more by the society?

Both the scientists and artists have contibuted to the society in their own ways. I will not be able to give an example but yes can say that the artists have created pictures that are proved to act as a stress buster. Scientists have created chemicals and paints that are user friendly, not toxic and give a good look to the arts that are made by the artists. Thay both help the society to grow.

As i think the caomparision you are making is impractical because those are tow differnt field and also one contribute very large to society as it has great importance that is scientist which are laways making you life easier to live and provide solution of all the things where as painter are just to provide stress relief and act as cultural activity but does not contribute in that way so i think this is useless to sompare of their contribution because they are east and west of the topic.

I think generally, both are valued at the same level but at different aspects. Artists are valued for entertaining and amazing people and also in trying to promote different projects or products while scientists are the developers of these products and services. If you think about it, artists tend to complain when they are not given much attention like the strike of the writers last year in America. Scientists on the other hand sell their innovations to other countries if they are not appreciated much. Both have rarely been done which means that they have been valued by society. I think that it is a balance between the 2 that keeps us sane. We cannot just have art and no science, then we'd have no system. We can't just have science without art because then we'd have no entertainment. we'd be like mad men walking on the streets :p I hope I've contributed to your thoughts what I thought was only appropriate to say :D
