Hi myLotters! I've been to Sweden several times (my boyfriend is Swedish and I try to visit him as much as possible) and I just love it. I've only been to the Gothenburg area, but I think it's such a beautiful place! Especially since where I'm staying is all nice and green :) I always have a lot of fun when I'm there, the towns and people are so different from home, but now that I've been there a few times I'm getting used to it. I'm also trying to learn some Swedish, but it's a little hard. What about you? Have you ever been to Sweden? If so, where did you go and how was it?

No, I haven't been to Sweden. What kind of food do they eat there? What do people do for fun? Are there beaches, mountains, parks, what kinds of things are there?

Sounds beautiful. The cooking sounds close to our style, potatoes grow well here and lots of cows for butter, meanwhile, we either have to import olive oil or get some from the few places that grow it in California on the other end of the country which is like getting things from the other end of Europe. Rapeseed oil was changed to the name Canola Oil here because there are a lot of people who have been raped in this country and the name just upset and congured up bad feelings among people. So for it to sell, it had to have a new name and since lots of it grows in Canada, Canola oil. I'm in one of the states close to the Canadian border. Lots of people from there buy our stuff down here, so I don't mind buying their oil and a few things to help them out. I'd like the forests, hills, beaches and an amusement park. Sounds like you had fun! Sounds like you would have to get used to the food. Any food there that you liked?

The landscape is really beautiful, there are lots of forests and everything is just so green :) There aren't any 'proper' mountains in the area I'm staying, only hills. If I'm not mistaken you have to travel further north to actually find mountain ranges and such. One of the things we did the most was going out for walks in the forest. We also went swimming a few times, but in a lake instead of the beach. It was the first time for me (I've been to swimming pools and beaches before, but I had never swam in a lake) and it was a very nice experience: the water was clean, we were surrounded by the forest, and there was even a small family of ducks swimming nearby! It was very nice. I can only speak about the area around Gothenburg, but there are parks and beaches and many other fun things indeed. My boyfriend and I spend one day in Liseberg, a really famous amusement park there, with some of his friends... it was /a lot/ of fun, definitely something I want to do some time again :D And concerning the food... well, it's quite different from what I'm used to. I missed some things from home (such as the ham and other delicious kinds of sausages, the olive oil, the bread...), but I liked it nonetheless. They use butter for cooking or rapeseed oil, and eat a lot of potatoes :)

Ohh, I see... I didn't know Canola Oil was the same thing as rapeseed, I just thought it was a different plant. But I've always thought 'rapeseed' oil sounded a little 'bad', so to speak. Well, I /loved/ the salami. Sure we have it at home too, but the Swedish one is much tastier! They also have a kind of smoked sausage called Cognacs Medwurst (that you can eat either cooked or raw) that's really tasty, and another kind of sausage called Falukorv that I also liked. Another thing I found really tasty is lingonberry jam... even though my boyfriend thought it was so weird when I went and put some on a piece of bread, apparently they don't eat it like that in Sweden, but use it for cooking or with pancakes and such instead :)

Yes, I was born there and lived there for many, many years, even though I do not live there anymore. Swedish grammar is actually not that hard to learn, if you want to learn the language, but the pronounciation may be a bit tricky, so spend most of your time and efforts on that!

I'm having a little trouble with grammar, but I agree that the pronunciation is tricky indeed! Swedish has many sounds Spanish and/or Catalan don't have, and it's a little hard for me to adapt... but well, as with most things, it's a matter of practice, so hopefully I'll get better eventually. Thank you for your posts! :)

When I was 18 years old I worked as a children's nanny in Finland. After my work there I caught a ferry over to Sweden. I loved visiting the beautiful city of Stockholm. Most of all I liked the old part of the city most of all. I stayed in a ship that was moored and it is a youth hostel. I took a train up through the north of Sweden over the Arctic Circle and up to Narvik in Norway. If you get the chance I recommend you see a little Norway because is it also really beautiful. Yes, the Swedish language is challenging to learn but I am sure you are getting on well with it.

The old city of Stockholm is indeed lovely, I think most people who visit that city think so. And the whole city is actually pretty charming since it is so full of water, which makes is pretty interesting and unique!

That sounds like a very nice trip! Finland is really nice as well, I'd like to visit Norway some time too, since I've also heard it's really beautiful. I'm learning Swedish on my own (with the help of my boyfriend), but it's been a while now since I actually did it properly, so to speak, since I've been kinda busy. But hopefully it'll get better :)
