What's the craziest diet you've tried that actually worked?

I was just thinking today of all the dieting I've done and remembered an insane diet I went on years ago. I ate nothing, just drank 3-5 bottles of beer a day and all the water I wanted. I lost 7 pounds in a week then stopped, not because I was hungry (beer is very filling!) but because I realized it wasn't healthy and I felt pretty bad. What's the weirdest diet you've tried that worked? Or not worked?

Back those days when I was about a 2nd year college, I tried water therapy on my diet. Every morning I drink about 8 glasses of water before I eat breakfast.lol. My tummy is like a balloon and I feel like vomit at the same time. But then It worked after all that hardship drinking water I lost weight and have a good shape. My friends asking me what did I do why I lost weight and I told them to try the water therapy.

I don't think I could drink that much water before breakfast! I drink about a gallon of water a day but it's all spread out. Well, at least you were well hydrated!

Wow, that is indeed a very interesting method, jaijaye! I have never heard of that before, but it does sound like it could make your appetite smaller indeed!

Cookies....and milk shakes. I lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks and had tonnes more energy...I stopped because I wanted to try other products that that company sold. I think I will go back to the cookies and shakes though. Cheers.

Perhaps, the check the company sends me every once in a while cures that for me though. Cheers.

I've never tried any fad diet The only time I've really been on any kind of diet was with my first pregnancy. The doctor gave me a list of foods that I could eat. Guess what, I craved corn, which was NOT on the list of allowed foods. I ate the corn and left off the potatoes, which were on the list. I did just fine by eating the corn, but I did just fine with my next pregnancy without dieting at all.

I wish I had gone on a diet like that my first pregnancy because that's when I gained most of my extra weight and it just never went away. I'm dropping it slowly now and trying to exercise more. I'm done with crazy diets!

I wonder what craziest thing people are not up to in view of bringing themselves in shape. Some eat less and drink (water or juice) more and finally they need hospitalization for morbid weakness. I have added fats on my stomach and wish to get rid of it and to be frank have not though of any change in diet or trying something else. I feel if I try freehand exercise and cut a bit on my two meals I would be fine.

That sounds like a very sensible plan. You have to be especially careful since you've been ill and your body is probably still weak. Try that--exercise is a dieter's best friend and most of us don't get enough of it.

I guess I haven't really tried any really crazy diets but I have tried a lot of them. There was one years ago but I can't remember what it was called. It was a high protein diet and involved fasting but only allowed a few foods. It wasn't very balanced and even though I lost weight, it wasn't very healthy. I didn't stick with it very long. The only diet I've ever been able to stick with and that actually does work for me is the Atkins Diet. I guess it's because there are a lot of foods allowed on it that I actually like and the fact that you can pretty much eat as much of those foods as you want. I've never been able to stick with anything else long enough to lose much weight without getting bored or sick of them. Cutting down on the carbs really does work for me though and I actually feel better, have more energy and need less sleep when I do it.

I thought about Atkins but my doctor at the time told me he had a lot of patients going into kidney trouble because of it. You need some carbs or your body will go haywire. Most of us just go overboard on them! I think Atkins took that into account in the past couple of years but I'm not sure, I haven't kept up with health news too much.

I have heard very good things about Atkins too, it seems to be quite an effective diet indeed.

That's the trouble with such drastic diets, we gain back more than we lose!

Wow, you can gain weight by eating rice? I thought that would actually make you gain weight, since rice is full of carbs? But I guess you get really sick of the rice after a while, and then start eating less, maybe? I would not mind this diet myself, since I really like rice, hehe!

It is good method for detoxification bad not so good in general because rice is low in protein which is essential.

I have to confess to being a bit overweight, but I don't do crazy diets...I've pretty much cut out sodas, just drinking water, tea or coffee instead, and reckon by staying away from desserts and chocolate I could lose weight if I wanted..More exercise, less fatty /junk foods and smaller portions should work for almost everybody...

That's the approach that I take now, but I'm thinking of trying the rotation diet. That varies your daily caloric intake and keeps your body busy so you lose weight because it never knows what to expect. I never drink sodas--we call it "pop" here. It's so bad for you! Most people don't know that it takes 8 gallons of water to flush out the damage of one can of pop.

I did the rotation diet rigorously for months and lost 40 lbs, but while I should still be on it, it is really hard to stick to, practically have to chart a month's worth of food out and I'm not nearly so organized.!

hi dragon well I was knocked for a loop when they weighed me the other night as I was expecting 224 but it read just 200 which is much too high but in several weeks I have lost 24 pounds and by drinking a lot of extra water and cutting all the high carb food portions in half. I was never awful hungry as the water filled my tummy til the nextmeal. I was not really trying to diet I was actually drinking a lot of water to undo the high blood sugar that taking a steriod for an allergic reaction was causing.mylegs were s wollen but with drinking the water and dashing to the bathroom my legs look the best they have in years and I lost 24 pounds too.now I am off predisone and am able to stablize my blood sugar much better and am now going to see about losing the other fifty pounds to get really healthy again.I cut b ack on high carb food and eat all my veggies and fruits and whole grains with some protein. It was wild but it worked to lower blood sugar and unexpectedly I lost the weight.

That's great, Hatley!! There's a commercial running on the radio that says for every pound we lose, we take 4 pounds of pressure off each knee. So I'm determined to lose more! I love carbs and sweets and have been trying to cut down a lot on them. I also plan to try the rotation diet, which varies your calories to fool your body. Good luck, I hope you're successful!

I think the cabbage soup diet was the one. You do loose weight, it's nothing but water and veggies, but pretty soon you can't face the stuff so it doesn't last long.

I've heard that from people! Besides which, a friend told me she got very gassy with the cabbage soup and it was embarrassing at work so she stopped. I do have good success when I make and eat my special vegetable soup, though. And it's getting cold enough that it would taste good!

It was NOT a diet, just another way of eating!!! I was in my early 30s & wanted to lose about 30 pounds. I ate anything & every thing my heart desired during the day, but I ate NOTHING after 6:00pm. Back then I couldn't go to sleep hungry, so I would eat a small bowl of cereal with milk just before bedtime or an occasional half a peanut butter & jelly sandwich just before bedtime or I'd eat a bowl of hot air popped popcorn with NO butter. All of those put just enough in my stomach that I could fall asleep without a lot of calories.I lost 40 pounds the first month & I was NEVER hungry!!! I would eat Pizza around 11:00 am, eat a plate of healthy vegetables between 4-5:00, & then NOTHING but what I just mentioned after 6:00. I ate any really bad food around 11:00. I also was bad about eating a lot of ice cream during the day. I know they tell us that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but I NEVER ate breakfast. As a matter of fact, I never have!!! That was the most weight I've lost on any diet I've ever tried. I NEVER felt deprived & I had NO trouble following it!!! I don't think it would work on us over 50 crowd as most of us have NO metabolism left; but it did work on a 32 year old!!!.

That sounds very sensible and something most people could live with. I used to snack at night from hunger but since I've begun knitting in the evening that's mostly disappeared! Elicbxn mentioned the rotation diet which sounds like it would work for us folks over 50. You vary the daily calorie count so your body can't adjust to anything definite, keeps it on its toes (so to speak) so it starts dropping the fat! I'm going to do a little more research into it and then try it sometimes this week.

Now that you've mentioned knitting, you reminded me that myLot has been an EXCELLENT deterrent to snacking at night. I think I'll get me a snack in a moment, but I just keep typing!!!

I drink cold soda first thing in the morning... lol! this why, since it is too very early it will force my stomach to ache and attend meeting at the CR... ( you get what I mean right? ^.~) This make my metabolism fast (its what I believe) and whatever explanation it has... the fact that it works make me smile... ALTHOUGH... IT'S SUPER NOT ADVISABLE. ULCER ANYONE???!

Oh, very bad!! Did you know that it takes 8 gallons of water to flush out the ill effects of soda on your body?! Bad, bad!! Oh, but soda is so delicious--I've been craving Coca-Cola lately and it's hard not to give in and go buy a can.

I really am used to eating a lot. now when I have tried eating only twice a day then this seemed really awkward for me. I do not take snacks or take any foods ever in between meals. I only take breakfast and dinner but really heavy. but this really worked for me because I shed off 4 pounds per week doing this kind of routine. eventhough i crave to take something in between meals or have lunch, i just really think of the result i will be getting if i followed this diet i am really in to. i do this without having any kind of exercise at all besides walking. this is really effective for me. sounds crazy at first but then it actually works. with this, this doesnt really need to have vigorous exercise which is good for me. this only takes a real good amount of self-discipline when you want to achieve the best result that you want to have. I hope this works for some of you.
