Do You Still Shut The Bathroom Door If You're In The House Alone?

I mean for baths, showers and the like. I don't know why, but when I'm in the house on my own I still shut the bathroom door. Why do I do this? The front and back doors are locked. The cat is highly unlikely to come in when I'm bathing so it's a mystery to me why shutting the door is important to me. Habit, maybe?
Perhaps I'm worried about a draught coming up the stairs (the bathroom is at the top) therefore giving me a chill or something daft.
Are you the same or don't you shut the door whether anyone is in the house or not?

I shut the door because I don't want the cats to come in and do rude things to my shoes.
I actually prefer to have the door open in the summer to keep the room cooler, but I worry about my shoes... I have my shoes in the bathroom at night too to protect them from the cats...
I'm vastly more concerned about them throwing up in them than anything else...

What do you mean "rude things?" Have they been doctored?
Throwing up in your shoes..no, that wouldn't be good.

I live alone so I never close the bathroom door except in the winter to keep the heat inside the bathroom when I take a hot bath. I like a real hot bath and so close it only in the winter.

In the summer I do, yes. Gets rid of the steam and saves me putting the light on, which also activates the extractor fan!

You shut the door but you keep your window open when you take your bath.

The only time I don't shut the door for a bath is in the summer, when it's hot. Otherwise, I shut it to keep it warm in there. Hate getting wet and cold at the same time.

I tend to leave the bathroom door open when i am in the house on my own no matter if i am having a bath, going to the loo or even having a strip wash. After all there is only me in the house,so it is not like anyone else is going to come upstairs and see me in the bathroom.

Perversely I don't shut the door if I'm on the toilet (in the house on my own) but I do when I shower or take a bath..strange woman that I am!

I always close the door, even if I'm alone... I guess I'm just used to it. Besides, you never know if someone will come home! (Unless you live alone, but that's not my case) And it would be really embarrassing then, if they saw you using the toilet or something... very awkward :P

The thing is; even though the front and back doors are locked when my hubby is at work..my in-laws took it upon themselves to get my key cut so they had a copy a few months back.
"Hope that's alright!" my MIL said.
I was tempted to say, "Er, no, actually!" but bottled out.
Sometimes I have this vision that the in-laws are letting themselves into the house, which wouldn't happen because the MIL can't drive and her hubby has the car during the day at work..they live t'other side of Town, thankfully!

Hi Janey1966, I would like to have the bathroom door shut nicely after stepping in it. Might be this is the habit I have been developin since childhood. Therefore I would get the door locked unconsciously and never bother that there isn't anyone at home. When I'm alone at home both the front and back doors are closed and locked safely to prevent people with malicious intent to come in. I don't trust any salesman and postman.
Every undesirable inccidence might happen if stranger is allowed to enter our residence if we are alone at home. So for the safe purpose it's better to get the bathroom door closed as what I do as usual. Who knows when combing hair or whatever in front of the mirror there may be an unfamiliar appearance to appear in the mirror at the same time
It's sad that nowadays, the moral degeneration of the world is getting worse day by day. There are culprits lurking around to seek opportunity to make advantage to earn for living. They know that it's easier to subdue a single lady alone at home. And there is time we would figure wrongly the house doors are locked safely. So I think it's a good habit to shut the door when we go in the bathroom
Happy posting and Merry Christmas!

Yes, I agree, one cannot be too careful these days. Security is paramount in our homes, espeically these days.

put it on the counter and tell her she absolutely cannot have it.
it usually works for my kids LOL
failing that..maybe a lil catnip sprinkled in the grass?

Yes, my cat will come in and say "hello" when I go to the loo after rising out of bed. She doesn't sit on my lap though!
The kitty grass has grown but she doesn't seem to want to eat it. We bought it to help alleviate the furballs.
Any ideas on how I can tempt her? It's so lush I feel like eating it myself lol!

Haha! I've planted the grass outside and it looks mightily impressive, I must say. No doubt moggies from roundabout will eat it but at least it won't go to waste!
As for Flojo, I've been told by a cat nutritionist that we shouldn't really be giving her tuna, along with the munchies, as the latter are a complete cat food. The tuna won't help with digestion and she does tend to regurgitate furballs when she's eaten tuna so I'm hoping the munchies only will do the trick.
If not there are alternative munchies we can try by the same manufacturer so all is not lost my friend!

No.. Nothing wrong with dreams at all Janey... But I don't dream them in the bath any more as we got rid of it for a shower. I noticed when we had a bath, there was a shower over it, and I only ever used that and so did my wife. So we went the whole hog, got rid of the bath altogether and had a power-shower fitted. _Derek

Haha! Yes, privacy is very important Derek, it really is. I would love it if we had the money to "do up" our bathroom as it's quite large. We could definitely have one of those whirlpool baths, I'd love one of those.
Daydreaming is very therapeutic and I always make future plans in my head. Havne't got the money but the thought is still there, which I think is very important!

In my house? Oh yes, because just when I think I am alone...I am not! I have 4 daughters that although 3 of them are grown and on their own are apt to randomly just walk in at anytime. Also I rent and if my landlord knocks and I don't answer right away, he will just walk in...not cool! I also have a couple of friends that do the quick knock and walk in so yes...I do shut the bathroom door when I'm showering or bathing. Not only that, like you mentioned...the chill. It is just warmer in the bathroom if the door is kept closed.

It's actually not as crazy as it sounds. As a rule things are pretty quiet around here. It doesn't happen everyday that people just walk in here or all that often. It is just that it does happen and it is random enough that I just never know so I do shut the bathroom door. It's actually pretty peaceful here these days. There was a time when all my girls were still at home so I not only had them in and out but their friends as well.

I'd hate it if someone just walked into our house like that..you're very tolerant and I don't blame you for shutting your bathroom door. It seems you have your hands full there!

Yes, I still shut the door even when I'm alone. Maybe because I get used to it already. Even if I know that nobody's around, I feel awkward towards a door not closed or not locked while I'm taking a bath. Who know anytime somebody arrives in my apartment. I have women roommates in my apartment by the way. :)

Maybe it's okay to left the door open if we have our own bathroom in our rooms :)

Well that's a good enough reason to lock the door as I nearly walked in on my hubby's nephew at his Grandad's house. I was about a foot away from opening the door when he just opened it himself, from the other side lol. His Grandad soon fixed the lock after that incident!

I like to keep the door shut because I get paranoid. At anytime, someone can come home and bring their friends. Someone can come home and come into the bathroom and I would get startled if they come in, where as, if the door was closed, they can knock or the door will make some noise so I will know when someone is to enter. My cat sometimes comes in the bathroom too and one time I had my eyes closed (when the door was open) and when I opened my eyes, he was right in front of my face, which startled me. Although, on hot days, I might just leave the door open so I can feel the breeze.

Haha! I can identify with the cat story as mine will wander into the bathroom if I fail to shut the door (usually when I'm on the toilet whilst in the house on my own) and she always wants me to stroke her back when I'm sat there. She's not put out at all. In fact, I wish I could train her to use the toilet instead of her litter tray but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon!

I tend to shut the door when everyone is home just to get a nice peaceful shower. When there is no one home but me though I feel perfectly fine with leaving the door open. Same thing when I go to the toilet. If there is no one home than I leave the door wide open.

No Way! If I hear someone come home, then the door would be shut pretty quickly or I would be finished before they were in the house! !

ya i guess everyone closes the door when they take a bath I close my door as my parents and my sister will be having the spare key of my house and they can come any time but normally if anyone is there or not there i still close my door...

Hi mustafarox, welcome to MyLot! Yes, I have a problem with the in-laws having a spare key to get in this house. Even though I know they wouldn't come round when my hubby is at work, the thought still remains that they might, so I shut the bathroom door.

When we are at home, we seldom shut the bathroom door. It seems that it is always left open. I think that it is mainly because we live in an apartment. But more than ten years ago, when we were living in a big old house, we always kept it shut. Otherwise it smelt. Now it is so different to live in a new house or apartment with a much better structure of the house. Have a good day, Janey.

I tend to have mine nearly shut, if that makes sense. I shut it completely if I'm having a bath or shower as it seems to be warmer that way..don't know why but it does.
Thanks for posting.

It's very rare for me to be in the house all alone, so I am in the habit of shutting the door when I'm in the bathroom. As a result, I shut the door even when I'm all alone out of habit. Sometimes I make a conscious effort to leave the door open though, as I realise that no one can walk in on me.

Yes, I can shut the door out of habit as well. I think it stems from the fact Mum's bathroom is downstairs so we all shut the door in that house as we don't want anyone barging in on us lol. So, I guess I've just carried it on in this house, despite the bathroom being upstairs.
