How relevant are the Ten Commandments in today's society?

Looking at the state of today's society, I've noticed that people will say their living by the Ten Commandments, yet, they really aren't. Doing some research, I've found that they were given to truly show how people were sinning. Also, that without the faith behind them, they aren't relevant. Murders happen everyday, we all want what everyone else has, theft happens on a regular basis, and adultery is everywhere. So, how relevant are they?

I think it is better to think about why there is such a think and why the God want us to live by the Ten Commandments. I know, that people cant murder each other even if they are not believers but I think if one person live that he dont hurt other people they dont need to worry about ten commandments.

Forget the 10 commandments and live by the golden rule! "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Those are Golden words and Oh so true! There is an old saying that goes," Nothing is written in stone!" A reminder that things change, and its never too late!

The Ten Commandments will never become irrelevant, just like their Author will not. Many people don't know or understand them today, but that doesn't make them irrelevant. They are the basic rules of human behavior and dignity. As we "progress" people think they can make their own rules, but it doesn't work very well.
You're right that murders still happen, we still covet, theft happens, adultery seems to be very common. That's a sign of the depravity of man, not the irrelevancy of the Ten Commandments nor the concept of a God who cares enough to give them to us.

I still say that it is sooo relevant. I consider the Ten Commandments as some sort of standard guidelines. It doesnt mean that even though everyone is committing a sin every second, doesnt mean that we no longer need it. We are but humans and we are bound to fall everytime especially when we are in the near occasions of sins. As it is a guideline and is so written in the bible, we cant say that God has never reminded us of the things we are to avoid. I wish i could have the guts to say that i am living by the 10 commandments but the truth is, it is really hard to live a divine life.

People are forgetting that there is a Ten Commandment. It doesnt mean anything to them anymore. Its sad that they think that its no longer applicable these days. Everything that is happening in the world these days is a denial of the ten commandments.

I believe they are still relevant. I think the biggest problem is that we are becoming a secular society and they don't hold the same weight with most people anymore. They think that if they don't act on the feelings they haven't committed the sin. They forget that Jesus said if you commit the sin in your mind or in your heart it is the same. We all sin everyday, its hard not to do as a human. Being imperfect we can only ask for forgiveness for the sins. As I am trying this I am watching a program on CNN about the pope and issues that have been caused.
