Religion: God's gift to man or an evil created by mankind

My grand mom is a very religious woman. She believes that god has made us who we are and is responsible for all the things we cherish in life. But whenever I think about religion or god, I think about all the wars fought and all the people killed in the name of religion. Even in today's modern world atrocious acts are committed in the name of god. A typical example of such an act is the 9/11 attack. Therefore I feel that shouldn't it be better if there was no religion. What do you think??

Religion is no more than mankind's attempt to understand God. Religion is also a catalyst which brings many problems to the surface where they can be dealt with. After all, when you think you have God's blessing, you are no longer afraid to let it all out. Maybe the world would be better without religion however it looks like it is here to stay. They are well organized and converting people everyday.

It is a mis-belief that God created religion because the existence of God itself is very controversial. The existence of God is totally man made. So a man made imaginary creation can not be responsible for a reality. Howover, if there is any God at all,God had so many things to do and also has so many things to do still now for the welfare of mankind that He had not have any spare time to devote for creation of religions. Moreover, God is supposed to be the 'Father' of all of us. So, being a father He would not have been so unkind to create anything which would turn out to be a total evil to mankind. So religion is the creation of man and man can only get rid of its bad effects if he is patient and tolerant to each other's religion & if everybody is allowed to practise his religion without hampering others' beliefs in their religion. At the same time I would say I also believe that it would have been better if there was no religion at all.

I think I should think more. I don't think 9/11 was related to religion at all.

Religion should be a way that people think about the world and live their lives in such a way that makes the world a better place. It's a way to cope in this world as well as a way to make people aware that life is worth living. Religion's okay. The only thing that religious people from all walks of faith have to understand that THEY ARE NOT THE ONLY RIGHT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. It's fundamentalism of any shape or form that irritates me the most.
