I have had many debates on this subject to be a Christian or not to be one. I have heard that if you do go to church every Sunday you are and if you don't then you are stilling trying to be a Christian. I would love to know what everyone thinks.

Hebrews 10:25 "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
In Luke 4 you see that Jesus went to the synagogue on the Sabbath. If Jesus is not too good for church then we certainly are not. You can believe in Jesus without going to church, but you cannot follow him and worship Him as we are called outside a body of fellow believers, weather that body of believers is at a church building or under a tree somewhere.

I think if the pastor is only there to collect a paycheck it's time for the church to have a little discussion with him and find a new one. At my church the pastor only works there as long as we want him too. That doesn't mean he only says what we want him to say. He teaches out of the Bible, period. If The Holy Bible says it then he'll teach it, weather we like what it says or not. He should have the freedom to do that without worrying about his job and there are enough true Christians at our church who understand that.

Amen,
Sad to know that some reilgions don't believe in feeling and praising and praying outside the church. I remember talking to a young man at the time I was young as well. He was from another country, wow this made me think.
I told him God talks to us outside the church, God talks to us anywhere we are. We can worship him anywhere and talk to him and pray anywhere.
He was shocked. He believed that everything has to be done in the church.. That he was questioning me how can God do that he does? Who does he do that? He thought it was cool and I said yes its true.
Then he had to get off because his mother said he cant talk to me anymore.

I do believe that Christians should fellowship with one another whether it is in a church or at someone's house or where ever they decide to meet. The point that you made about being too good to go to church maybe someone people feel that way and maybe some don't or having found the right place to fellowship and learn more about Jesus. I have been to a church that the pastor was there only for money and not for God and to teach people about his word. What are your thoughts on that?

What makes a Christian is a personal relationship with God, not where he is or when or how often or even why. Going to church does not make one a Christian any more than going into a garage makes one a car.
I have been outside the organized church for many years and I am a Christian. My faith is in Christ, not in a church building.

Greetings,
I hope I can help you to clear out what is not true and shine some light with the truth.
Your question is do you have to go to church every Sunday to be a Christian?
Well, before I discuss about having to go to church every Sunday, let me take a breif moment about being a Christian.
Being a Christian is having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ by faith.
Now when talking about having to go to church every Sunday to be a Christian this is the part that is not true. One can not be a Christian by going or have to go to church every Sunday to feel like one is a Christian. Now it does say in the Word of God to not forsake yourself assembling among the saints. Our faith is strength among many members and this is one of the reasons, however, there is a far greater reason than this to be attending church. When one has the love of God in them this love motivates us to be glad and rejoice that we can have the opportunity to go into the house of God. I have heard of many places that don't allow people to gather and worship God.
For me it is an honor to go to His house to give Him all of my praise and worship among the brothers and sisters in Christ. But in no way does this make me a Chrisian. Because I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and He is the one who makes me a Christian not going to church.
I hope I have helped in some way.
May God bless you and have a wonderful day.

Wow who said this?
In the bible it says we are the church. Just like a school it isnt a school with out the kids, children, teens, students and teachers. Business without people and customers isnt a business. With out all those things it just a building we give the building a name to give it meaning and its purpose.
So without the people other words (Christians) a church isn't a church
the church doesnt save people GOD does.
You can be a born again christian and be in your home worshipping God, singing, reading the word of God. A church is a place where everyone that believes or wants to believe or wants a way out, wants a new beginning, wants a new life, looking for a new life, looking for a savor, looking a ofr a provider, looking for someone to love them and never Hate them, Looking for someone who is there always.
That is what a church does gives people a push an open door and place where people can help them understand, and be word of wisdom, a place to praise God for the things he has done and havent done yet.
I do Go to church Every Sunday and sometimes more. Why because the church allows me to have a better understand of God. Go in Dept who he is his, the stories about him. To worship him and to feel his Spirit. THANK YOU JESUS

NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Haha, who told you that!? I mean, most Christians go to church because they love God and want to grow closer to Him. But do you HAVE to go? No. There are many Christians who just do their devotional time alone everyday with God. Being a Christian is accepting Christ into your heart and believing with your mind, heart and soul in His divinity and furthering His kingdom.
Unfortunately, the person who told you you have to go to church every Sunday was focused on the WORKS of Christianity, and you have to be careful because you're NOT saved by works, you're saved by FAITH. Faith alone is what saves.
Hope this answer helps, mate :)

No I don't believe you have to go to Church every sunday to be a christian.
Christianity is based on faith...... not in how often your at church.
I do, however think it is helpful in your relationship with God. I think that you need that fellowship with other believers. But it doesn't necessarily need to be in a church building.

I know many Christians that never go to church but call themselves Christians. They claim to be busy or whatever. Maybe when they die God will be too busy for them.

Yeah, I have heard this response as well. I know that you are suppose to put God first and make sure that you praise him and worship him before anything else. I know that I don't want God to be too busy for me on the day. You make a good point here. Thanks for letting me know your point of view.

Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than going to a car dealership makes you a car. Being a Christian means accepting Christ's work of salvation for you and maintaining a close relationship with Him. Part of maintaining that relationship involves going to church as a way of worshiping Him corporately, fellowshipping with other believers and receiving teaching and encouragement in your Christian walk.
