Would You Start Over?

I have been working on a craft project for a couple of weeks. It's a firetruck bank with a small pocket to insert a photo so it looks like the person in the photo is in the driver's seat. Am now working on the background and then will secure the bank in back and place it around a plastic coffee can. I noticed yesterday, after being about half finished, the background color is not light brown. It's light lavender. Talk about a disappointment! Don't know that I want to waste the time ripping the background and restitching it with light brown. What would you do with this situation?

I hate redoing anything. If I was in your shoes, I would finish the project, and start a new one.

After giving this project much thought this is what I decided to do. Thanks for responding.

Hi Carol, I guess it would make a difference to me if I'm going to give this as a gift to someone or if I'm selling it. If I was selling it, I would leave it the way it is and finish it. The reason I say this is that there were many crafts that when I worked at the craft store I didn't think would sell at all, and they did. Everyone's idea of what they like is so different. Someone might look at this and love the colors, whereas someone else wouldn't like it at all. If it's a gift, I would re-do it.

Hi Kashmeresmycat. Thank you so much for your positive feedback. It's not a gift and it's not sold. Wanted to see what the first one looked like before I made more since they are so time consuming. I know many kids like purple so maybe this will fly! I was disappointed yesterday when I asked one of our kids whether the background was light brown or lavender. Maybe I need my eyes checked. Have a great day, carolbee

Now I know my son and nephew both love the color purple. So even though it has it on there, it's still a firetruck and boys won't have to be ashamed. They can have their favorite color on it plus a firetruck to show it's not girly. And so you know, my son is 13 and my nephew 17, and they are all boy but still love the color purple. It will look great I bet when your done.

Oh, there have been times when I'm in a store trying figure out what a color was. I can easily see how you thought this light lavender was light brown, seriously. I have a pale lavender clutch purse which looked light brown, haha, and I bought it in the store to go with a brown dress. Well, it wasn't brown but sure looked like it was in the store, for sure. I think someone will like this little fire truck as they are cute. You should put a picture up too so everyone can see.

That's a tough question! If you didn't notice it right away maybe other wouldn't...I know you would like to have it perfect but sometimes its not worth the effort! Let us know what you come up with!

Think I'll leave it alone since I have mega tons of stitches in the project already and it would take me a long time to rip them out. The firetruck is red with gray trim so it looks ok. I was disappointed yesterday about the whole thing. It's not sold and guess I could use it as a sample. Thanks for responding.

You've been working on it for a couple of weeks. First I would ask myself 3 questions: 1. Are they really going to care that much that it's light lavender? 2. If they are going to, is there someone else I could keep it for and start again. 3. IF they're really going to care and I really don't have anyone else who will like it, then yes, start over. It's a background color, if their house is dark, it might not even show, depends on where they put it in their house and I'd make sure everything was marked well and read the colors before I started next time.

It's not a sold item and looks ok, I guess. In direct sunlight it looks light lavender but in the dim lights it looks light brown. Not so sure I want to take the time to start over since it would take me forever to rip it. Could use it as a sample. Thanks for responding.

Hi Carolbee! Sounds like a very cool project. I would continue on with it (unless it was a custom order for someone, and lavender wouldn't work)and then start another project...or do another truck with the light brown background. I hope we get to see pictures of the truck when it's finished!

Thanks, Robin. Haven't done much with this particular craft lately. Need to finish it up. I will take photos and post on myLot when complete. It's not a special order so I will use it as a sample basically. Thanks for responding.
