I have not heard of paying for a Visa. You do need to pay for a passport. For a long time a Visa has been require to travel to a foreign country so that the country has some control over who comes and goes in their country.

Hey I never travel outside of my country. Because I never get chance for going outside of the country. It is also my desire to travel many countries of the worlds. And know their peoples and their customs. But I think it is too expensive to going for an abroad tour. I think sometimes many companies offer us to travel abroad in cheap prizes. So I am waiting for that day when I will go to abroad.

I live in South Africa, and up until recently you did not need a visa to travel from my country to England. I went there in 2006 to visit my uncle and I did not need one. Now because of a lot of illegal activity concerning foreigners entering England via South Africa, they have implemented this new law that states that one has to have a visa when traveling from South Africa to England.

I have a British Passport because I come from England which is part of the United Kingdom. I have needed to have visas for visiting some countries or work permits. I got work permit for Finland when I worked as a nanny in Finland at age 18 years old. I got a tourist visa to visit Hungary. Then I got a working holiday visa for Australia when I was 20 years old. I had to get an expensive visa to visit Jordan. I have visited the USA three times on the visa waiver system. I visited Vancouver in Canada this year and wasn't able to pop down to Seattle. I was in America in 1993, 2001 and 2002 with the visa waiver. Now it is challenging to visit America overland from Canada for a British Passport holder. I would have needed a visa and a machine readable passport. Since 9/11 it has sadly meaned countries are worried about possible terrorists. Visa rules have changed and they are more suspicious. I know America didn't want illegal workers now they are desperate to keep out all terrorists. I hear that they finger print all people arriving by air in America, that doesn't include children I am glad to say. Up until 2005 I lived close to London where all the visas could be obtained. Then I moved to the South West and it is challenging for me to be able to obtain the visas. Countries like India, China, Burma, Russia and Mongolia require a visa for a British passport holder. That adds to the expense of the trip and now I need a visa for myself, my toddler son and my baby daughter. Each one of us have a passport you see. Twice I wanted to go to Russia but wasn't able to get a visa easily. It would cost me £300 to get visas for Russia for me and my two little children. I am sorry you didn't get a visa to visit the United Kingdom. For years Australia has required a visa but these days it is easy to one get up to 3 months.
