Why is downloading speed faster in this computer while slower in another?

I really run this experiment with my laptop, and a desktop computer. My laptop is has CPU speed slightly faster than my desktop computer, and I installed this P2P program on both computer for downloading media. The funny thing is, it is downloading faster on my desktop with this P2P program. While with my laptop, it is slower. Why? I just confused. With the same internet speed, and the same program. And my laptop is running faster in processing too.

generally, the speed of laptop will be slower than desktop. Because the handle of heat or other elements will effect the speed of computer.

Hmm. that might be one of the reason why my laptop downloading speed is slower. Oh well, thanks for this valuable tips.

Laptops aren't as good as desktops no matter what parts they have. There must be many factors why that is so. One would be that in laptop everything is cramped laptops tend to overheat because there's little air flow and all parts are smaller. You can really feel the difference when you play games. Me and my brother played a game over lan and his laptop crashed many times and it was not just any low end laptop it was from hp. Things i mentioned shouldn't have that much effect on performance but they do. You want a silly comparison? Indoor chickens are cramped and leas healthy than the ones kept outside
Anyway hope you get the point. Desktops are cheaper per performance and laptops overheat and heat and dust will make computer slower including download speed.

Generally, download speed is not much connected to your computer. It depends on the speed of cable(e.g. the speed of dial is much slower than broadband) and the website in which you are downloading.
For example, if you download a file (what ever how big it is) from your local network, it should be very very fast! But if you download a file from a website that many people access this website, it could be very slow, sometimes, the speed may be only 3k or 1k/per second.
But download speed is a little affected by your computer. Because the download need your cpu to handle it, your memory to temporarily store the file. Also the speed of harddisk will affect the speed to store the download file into it. The speed of harddisk also affect the speed of OS which can affect the speed of handling downloading.

As you say that you get faster downloading speed on one computer and on another computer you not getting faster download speed at the same Internet connection. I think sometimes this problem may happen because sometimes there are many temp Internet files stores on temp folder. So this is the reasonable for getting slow downloading speed. And sometimes it is also depend on your CPU speed. So I think you may check your temp files and try to removes them from your system.

That's a nice question. I haven't experienced that before. But I don't think it has something to do with speed of the processor because downloading from p2p programs doesn't require much resources. You sure you have the same settings of your p2p program? Set them both to default and try again. Oh and another factor, your desktop might be running some other programs that are using the internet connection! Like updating, browser, cash gopher, etc..
