A burning question for You..

I had need of a gas lighter, and bought one of those blister packs of 3 disposable ones earlier this evening. On getting it home,I took out the scissors to open it,and realised there on the back of the card were the instructions on how to use one...Which made me think of a discussion..So,if You need to be given instructions on how to use such a simple thing as a lighter, should you really be allowed to buy them?! It had a "Not suitable for kids" logo on the other side, and going through the supermarket checkout, the barcode flagged the pack so that a supervisor had to come over and authorise me being of age to buy them! and yet... What do you think? Have You seen or read any daft packaging or instructions?

how about things like electric shavers that say "do not use in shower" daft!

Shaver manufacturers have confused the issue there, though, having produced some of their products as "Wet and Dry" models,so some of them CAN be used in the shower..That info would be for the benefit of those still confused as to what sort of a shaver they owned.. but then, how many of us share a shaver with someone else that would be unaware of what kind of a shaver it was?

Instructions are instructions. They're just there just to keep you informed on how to use the thing. If you're well-oriented on how to use it then you can just leave them alone. It's not really some reason why someone should be allowed on whether to use it or not.

I'm just stating the obvious here so you don't have to take my response seriously.

That is almost as dumb as the warning that was on the pack of peanuts I ate the last time I was on an airplane. The package had PEANUTS written really big on it, and right under that it said "WARNING: CONTAINS NUTS"... Who would have ever thought that a bag that had PEANUTS written on it may contain nuts LOL

And Peanut allergy is why many airlines now give you little packs of pretzel snacks instead..which STILL have "Nut production line" warnings on them!

Hi there, First thing when we buy things of that sort even if they are the ones you are used to using them the instruction thing would be there. This is their duty to do so lest you do not complain later of their products. Just ignore the instruction and go your way. You know, many times instruction tend to confuse you and you lose your time reading them between the lines finally to discover that you knew them all.

I've never seen that before. I don't think lighters are what people should be worried that their children are possessing. Though I'd wonder why a young person (depending on age) would need a lighter for? Still, they could get matches somewhere for free, so I don't see the point of putting an age limit on lighters, there is no law for that, at least not where I live. I understand stuff like glue for models and spray paint, they just have to get their parents to pay since other kids effed it up for them by huffing it. Still, parents should be more responsible for their children, it isn't the store's fault if your kids are buying spray paint to huff and using model glue to get high (I say this because when I was under 18 there wasn't anything like that). There was a warning on the inside lid of a tote I bought from Walmart and it said do not put your children inside the totes with the lid on.

the age limit on lighters would be for the same reasons and concerns as those you mentioned-prevention of solvent abuse.
