My humphrey died 9/27/10 at 4:30 EST. I watched him get born 12 years ago and he died in my arms today. He was my avatar on mylot and he was my heart.
The first discussion I ever started on Mylot was about my beloved fat cat who weighted amost 18 pounds & needed to lose weight. He weighed 10 pounds today when he passed.
Humphrey started losing weight while still eating normally 12/99. I took him to the Vet and at first, they could not seen any reason for alarm. He dropped from 18 lbs to 12.8 lbs but was diagnosed, after many tests, with IBS and given meds. It was a misdianogoses. He had lymphoma but the meds put him in remission for 8 months.
In Sept of 2010, he started having beathing problems. I thought it was anxiety due to a recent move but it was really the beginning of the end. He had lymphoma and his lungs were filling up.
There have been times in my life when I had to euthanize a pet because I could not afford expensive treatment and even times when a little friend died in my arms without treatment. This was not one of those times (medical expenses were already over $3,000 and I was ready to go higher) but Humphrey died in my arms anyway.
Bottom line is these wonderful little creatures we call pets have a life expectancy a lot lower than ours. They are here to teach us about unconditional love and then they leave.
Humphrey left today after teaching me. God speed, little friend.

I'm so sorry to hear that your beloved Humphrey has passed.
I dread the day it is Scamp's time.
I know how hard it is to lose a beloved baby like that.
I know about cats being one's heart, my Sab was like that and I lost her far too soon.
Hugs wish I could be there to give you one in person...

Thank you so much, I can almost feel your hug and your sincerity. I used to dread the day it would be Humphrey's time. But what's really important is what these magniicent creatures we call pets teach us while they are here and whether or not we learn it. I'm sure you are learning the same lessons about unconditional love from Scamp that I learned from Humphrey. Our little friends don't have long on this earth but their message is Love and they convey it loud and clear.

So True. There is another cat here who was Humph's buddy and mine too, I suppose although we have never been too close. I know he will be getting lonly and I'll have to find him another buddy. I just hope he can hold off awhile until I'm ready,. I've never really looked for a cat, they just always sort of find me and I expect it will happen that way again whether I'm ready or not.

I'm so sorry to hear the passing of Humphrey...My Pyewacket was similar, who passed in my arms on April 19th unexpectedly. I had watched him being born and I was with him when he passed. Even though it's been five months I still miss my Pyewacket--maybe Humphrey and my Pye are playing together in Rainbow Bridge

I'm so sorry, I didn't know Pye had passed. I've been away from Mylot for awhile. Partially because of Humhrey's illness and also for other reasons. Pye and Humph were email buddies on here and I'm sure they are together somewhere. They were both loved dearly while they were here with us. I've been wondering if the connection I had with Humphrey was because I saw him get born and held him dying or if it was just that he was so very special and taught me so much. I think it was bcause he was special and taught me. You had a similar bond with Pye,hat do you think?

I hope Humphrey and Pyewacket are together somewhere and I hope your doing better than me. Right now, I'm a basket case.

Thsnk you so very much. My Mylot friends mean so much right. I'm kinda raw right now and it means an awful lot to have sincere friends on here.

Humphrey sounds like a good cat. I have had many cats in my day and could tell you all sorts of stories. So many euthanizations and such. But one thing I always believe: They were sent to me for a reason and we loved eachother. I have so many sweet memories from the time I was a youngster until now in my doutage. Thanks for sharing your cat story with us.

Celticeagle: Humphrey was a GREAT cat. I've had 27 (as far as I can remember) cats & dogs for pets so far and Humphrey (His daddy was Bogey) was #1. He was the pet of a lifetime, I think. You are so right, they are sent to us for a reason. I truly blieve they are sent to us so we can learn about love. We don't always get it straight but they do.

This is so very true. They are so innocent and give their love so freely.
