Do fraternities really needed in our society?

Last Sunday here in Manila we where shock by the news when the last day of bar examination was ended in a bomb blast. Luckily there where no deaths but there are many injuries. As of today there is a law student that is needed to be amputated because of heavy injuries she receive. The reason of this cowardly act is said to be a FRAT WAR. I really don't like this called "kapatiran"! its much more like gays that is brave when together. Over the years this fraternities is much link to violence ang many innocent lives is lost.
Do Fraternities really much do what their suppose to do? Are they really important to our society or they are for "Papogi" purposes only?

well, when i had a discussion about the birth of certain fraternities and their supposed to be purposes, i found it good. they were built to help each other and conduct programs for the needies but these days i've seen many fraternities who are doing silly and bad things to cause trouble with each other so it would depend on what kind of fraternities that have to exist.

I don't judge all of the fraternities, But base on the news regarding to them. their more infamous rather than famous!
