Hi Friends! This is mainly intended for members/my friends, who are from the Republic of China. Would like them to clarify me, is Republic of China a democratic Country? or is this country could be called a 'democratic country'?. This question was asked in a class IX school examination in my city. I am not sure about it, I could not find its right answers. Other are also welcome to throw light on this issue. Thanks in advance.

I think the Chinese government will think we are a democratic country, whereas the Chinese people will disagree to it. If it is a truly democratic country, then the different ideas, opinions, actions etc. can be allowed. The people can express our disagreement and then our government changes according to our thoughts. If so, then our country is democratic. At least the power won't be controlled by certain of people who are not voted or selected by most of the people. Their ideas are not our ideas. I love China

Question is not what you or Chinese Govt think. As per China's constitution or other rules and regulations does it come into the definition of a democratic country. Am just asking for information, no intention to discuss merits or otherwise of the system of governing being followed in China.

Hello Deepak, According to my searches China is a not a democratic country. However, let us wait for the answers by the members of that country. They can tell more about their own country.

Hi Deepak! If you ask this question to the Chinese natives they may get irked and tend to fume because China is not a democratic country and the people want to be free very much. But China has become more liberal and opened the flood gates to the world economy. That doesn't prove that they are lenient with their stringent laws that are characteristic of a communist country which they are. At times I feel that we should have that kind of stringent punishment in the so called democratic country like ours.

Here we see China and other communist countries as having far less freedom than we do.We see ourselves as the most open society and communist countries as closed. That's why I said the opposite.

Democratic means "the role of the people" since Communist is a Socialist with labor principal that they have different concept but doesn't mean communist is bad at all they just have different tolerance in law and order also Communist means "equal"

The definition of democracy is- the political orientation of those who favor government by the people or by their elected representatives a political system in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who can elect people to represent them majority rule: the doctrine that the numerical majority of an organized group can make decisions binding on the whole group Do you elect the Government in your country through 'election'? Broadly in a democratic country, Government and its representatives are elected by the people of the country. Do you follow this system in China? Please enlighten me.

You may be right Hately that China could not be termed as a 'democratic country, though the official name of China is - 'Republic of China'. The post was started just for the sake of knowledge, not for any other reason. Many thanks for sharing.
