The "Fate" of the Filipino People...

Philippines
September 28, 2010 9:29am CST
The situation recently has become grim for the Philippines. People are known more as over seas Filipino workers. a lot of students now are studying for future jobs abroad. all of the best of the best are working off shore and foreign nations benefits their skills. the only thing that the Country benefits is through Remittances and Freebies coming from the OFWs. We are being branded by our other nations as slaves, monkeys, third world crap and all. i don't know if it's the laziness of the people that divided the country even further. but i strongly believed that Government still majority at fault in terms of the past administrations. We are sometimes being compared as the Mexicans of Asia, which can really hurt us sometimes. ALSO, we got rebel groups almost in all three islands; the NPA, the rebel MILF and other Moro rebel soldiers. lastly, the terrorist group abusayaf.with the corruption also in the military, it's forces are growing thinner by the day. Disasters that has left Then China have slowly started Bullying lately about the Spratlys, claiming strongly that it's their territory. for some reason, we are defenseless unless we get a defense pack sign between other nations with US as well. if not, Navy will be crushed, easy for Chinese Army to Board in shores. More and more Filipinos are being born, having such an over populated rate to almost or more than a hundred million. if these problems continues to go on for a decade from now, WHAT do you think will be our Future or "fate" Yes, the future is what we make it today. so, your views please....

Sounds grim to me, sweetie. Slaves, monkeys, mexicans of asia? So what. People who tend to throw around insults are normally the ones who are those that you have mentioned. I don't think China will try something though. We all are busy at the moment and don't have the time to play with them now. Don't worry about it. Next time, think of white people in my country being called white dogs or white trash. That ought to make you feel better. TATA.

Hello Saphrina, there was supposed to be a second part, but i decided to keep it to myself. i believe what i have wrote here is really based on a lot of what's happening in my country in most aspects. i believe i want my people to be more respectful rather than being racist back against those who had been racist already. I want my people to set an example by not imitating the mistakes of others, most specially not repeating such racism attitude.

Send me the second part then, sweetie. You know we have this racist problem here for as long as i can remember. It is in our blood, if i can put it that way. We want to change a lot of thing for our people, but you cannot change those that do not want to change. Some people cannot live without those little nasty things in their life's. We can always drown them or something.

hello Letran, Oh,don't feel too much bitterness my dear brother. Well,i don't care what the other's would call us,so what? I don't blame anyone, the government,we the citizen or whoever to be blame. We need to be united together, and work together for our own good and this country to prove that we are still the same Filipinos. Ok, we are being branded as slaves?...then,can you imagine the world without a FILIPINO? Who will run their machineries then? The great country with all the technologies, without Filipino running their machineries? The middle east without the Filipinos...do you think it will become famous? Ha ha ha,then be proud my dear brother. We are used as their slaves?...NO..we are their BRAINS! Without us the Filipinos who worked for those giant industries...they'll be disabled.

Hello Jaiho, I remember that article coming from a guy from the middle east. He mentioned Filipinos are one of the most hardworking ever, with out them Saudi Arabia or any country in the Middle East would fall. well, they are some other third world countries out there. there's thailand, indonesia or even malaysia even. and some other countries that had been formerly under Soviet Union.well, we exist for something.

Actually you should not worry much if you depend on God and you help yourself. What matters most is what you contribute not only to your family but to your country. It does not matter what others may call you, as long as you know where you stand and if what you do is the will of God. We can't just depend on our government to solve such problems. We as an individual can do something about it. The only problem is that crab mentality exists, wherever you go there will be someone who wants to pull you down. But no matter what, it will just be a test for you to endure. OFW's exists because they want to support their families back home and to fulfill their dreams. Most Filipinos know how to sacrifice just to make their families meet both ends. I still believe that we as a nation can still have hope. About Spratleys, hmmm we should not worry about it if China wants it, besides what good does it make anyway if we will not be in good terms with other countries. Our government should focus more on other important matters like empowering people to jobs available in our country, I'm not talking about Call Centers, but other opportunities for our own people to work. Whether you stay in our country or work abroad the choice is yours as long as you can be of help to your family and your country. Your future depends on what you decide and act. The Fate of Filipino People??, I cannot answer that as a whole, people have different decisions to make in their life.

Hello strawberry, Your future depends on what you decide and act This is something that i also need to remember. unfortunately, most decide to leave the country and work elsewhere. when they got home, they become rich and starts their own business. I've been tempted to go abroad but i fear change in me when i stay there long enough. but I am proud of our OFW for taking such a stand with other foreign OFWs since we are the best workers accross the globe.

It depends to our people today. If we invest for the future, abolish corruption and help each other and change our attitudes, we can make a very prosperous country.

Hello Mspitot, that's right, but more like "Changing the Mindset" of every one. but that could take a while, with what's happening to the country, i think more problems are going to arise. we shouldn't give up for a prosperous Philippines

That's sad. Although the titles slave monkeys etc. are inappropriate. This just proves how other countries or people cannot provide themselves local workers that are qualified enough for the tasks and Filipinos have that ability, making them stand out. It's also not appropriate to call them such because they're the ones that make those other countries flourish, and those people should be thankful for them Filipinos. If only the Philippine government would do an action to make the workers stay and serve for their country..

Hello Misalax, well, i think they could, it's just they are mostly open for foreign jobs as well.i believe US entrepreneurs cannot provide such jobs to the Americans because they're salary can be too expensive to maintain. so, they're turning into third World countries like the Philippines just to save money and capital.

Hopefully your president will try to improve things regarding this matter. Philippines has a lot of great people, and it would be a shame losing them.

First of all, sad to say but we really are a country of servants and slaves. How? Look who runs the country? The Chinese, the Americans and some Malaysians. Instead of learning how to lead, we are taught how to serve. No offense to the nurses, but many Filipinos turned into nurses not because they want it. They went for nursing because it is in demand. And nurses are assistants who serve. Why not be doctors? When I was a child, we were asked what we wanted to be when we grow up. And well... Whatever happened to those childhood dreams? We just turned into servants... We've got too many nursing graduates who didn't even end up as nurse but ended up as call center agents which our country doesn't need. What our country needs... Food suppliers, we need farmers, fishermen and those who could produce food. Because we lack them, our country has to import from other countries for food. Kinda sad because the Filipinos taught the other countries who we import food from how to do agriculture. Rebel issues, these guys want change. And they're fighting for it. I don't blame them but I find them stupid. As for Spratlys, I can say we have no right to own it. Why? We can't even take care of our own Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao... What would we do to Spratlys? I'm sure when we own it only corrupt officials would gain from it. As for the navy/defense talk... It is pointless... At our current state, we cannot afford those high tech defense thing. Lets say we go ask help from the US... They'll just give us their second hand outdated weapons for a very very very high price and who is paying? Us... Our tax money would go to weapons... We can't get support from US against China, why? If you're the president of US, would you risk going to war against the one of the world power? It'll be stupid to have World War 3 all because of our failure of a country. As for the overpopulation issue, we're not overpopulated. The only problem here is, many people go to Manila overcrowding it. They all seek jobs in a place where they can no longer support them. These very people should go back to their own provinces and work on ways to develop it. Look at Sta Rosa and Davao, those places are good, not much people and developed. Plus easier to get jobs there. Unlike here in Manila. We can still change the Failippines back into Philippines. All we need to do is cooperate and stop our current foolishness.

Hello SinRealm, There was one Qualified candidate who has the power to teach us a lot. unfortunately, the public was too emotionally based and choose the one that's popular.People didn't give a damn about his track record because they got hurt with the truth about what's really happening to the country. too bad, there won't be another one like him in years to come. As for the spratly, i guess it ain't worth the territory.as long as we have all three then it won't be a problem. I feel bad that Manila is overpopulated because of people who couldn't get jobs in their provinces. Davao i think is a good place too. I have been to laguna as well, there are other call centers there too.

Who might that candidate be? I've no problems with Noynoy, he's actually doing his best for our country. I know he won't try to make things worse because the name of his family is on the line. Him having no record of doing anything has a good reason as well. The problem for him is that, GMA administration caused a lot of damage, and all Noy could do is do damage control. Yes, those places offer jobs, Davao is a good example of Agricultural and modern living, jobs and food are good. Sta Rosa on the other hand is still under development. I hope they don't put too much housings there. Too much housing would make it harder to look for jobs.

Well if we are too look at the problem of the Philippines, that will alarm us really. I am not saying we should not be concerned but on problems we don't have control over with we should rather just bring them to the Lord. Let's just pray for our country. The best that we could do to help our country is to be good citizens.

Hello Salonga, We can at least help the country by following simple laws. or even NOt throwing trash or spitting everywhere is where to start.they have laws about arresting people whos spits in Manila, but we will have to see if that law is going to last long.

Hi LetranKnight! Your questions are a handful but relevant. And difficult for a short discussion to tackle. Haha. So here goes.... I suppose we could expect the situation to continue and even escalate. Pinoys go abroad for the green buck and for whatever currency is used except here...they get less here. Though they seem to miss out on the fact that though you ear in dollars, you also spend in dollars. I've seen friends who left for the big dollar, came home, attempted to put up a business, but is now on ground zero. The problem, I believe, is structural and the government is the biggest player and has the biggest role to play and to do something about it. But of course, the people on top are moneyed people and self interest becomes the name of the game. There may well be good intentioned people in the government but the fact remains, they have their own interests to protect. And no, we are not overpopulated. Only the metropolies and some urban areas. We still have vast uncultivated and unused land we can use. But people flock to cities in the misguided hope that life will be better there. But, in spite all these, I still believe we will eventually reach where we want to be and where we should be. Slow perhaps, but definitely going there. Cross my fingers. Lol!

Hello Figurative, I remember what Bayani Fernando said, the failure of Engineering could have been the failure of the economy. probably if only the projects continued at that time, we could have proceed further. there should have been proper zoning of land that has something to do with near and easy transport routes. like what gordon said, there should be airports for local provinces besides BUS

The song goes like this : "let there be peace on Earth, and let it begin with ME". The future of our country rests on individual Filipinos. It should and must begin with every single Filipino. And where must every Filipino start - by following even the simplest of laws. PNoy demonstrated this when he refused to use "wang-wang" and refused to counter-flow. We can also do the same. Did you use the pedestrian lane today in crossing the street? Did you segregate your trash and place wastes according to its type? Will you bribe a traffic policeman if he caught you beating a red light? Simple things, yet so difficult for us to follow.

Hello Pinoycity, Well, the term "Change Begins with us" was a bit better, but that is good as well. since christmas is on the way i think.i believe that the President wants or tries to be leader by example. trouble is that we don't often follow those we idolized, how much more if the leader ask us to follow them. i think it's either that or get the license in the police center.

one more thing is that there are more uneducated people in this country and the sad thing is the educated take advantage of it instead of helping them achieve their dreams. yes there are free public colleges but students have to go to a whole lot of bullsh*t exams and are required to pass just to study when all they want to do is study, graduate and get themselves a decent job. they make it hard for people to achieve an educated level of intellect. this is why more and more become unemployed and end up as housewives/construction workers/ worst would be criminals.

LetranKnight25 i admire you for opening this discussion that has social relevance, i am sure it will serve as awareness and it might result to a positive change for our country - so for you * 2 thumbs up :D - it's really sad that our reputation has been categorized negatively, and i believe that we cannot change it in just a blink of an eye... neither blame our government or our people... I think we can start changing the fate of our country by starting it in our own little way.. like throwing garbage in the proper places or obeying traffic rules-- simple things that could result into a big change... and if only everyone has a desire to it.. hopefully can change our trademark to the world-though this is a big picture... it still starts with the small ones, hope you get what i mean - let's start acting now for our future generation. zandi458 - sorry for that bad experience with filipinos in malaysia, i think that is the result of poverty and illiteracy in our country, also present in other 3rd world countries--- survival is the reason i guess. - Please do not include everyone, there's a lot of us that can change your views regarding filipinos, visit our country and the beautiful places we have, you will love it here, just like other foreigners do.
