fish died

Not long ago my three year old betta died. It was very sad: I just went in to my room that night before bed and he was lying with his face down half under the rocks. I pulled him out and it looked as though he had died only recently. :(
He's had several long years; rather adventurous. He used to jump out of my hand when I pulled him out of the bowl to clean it. He landed in the trash can once. My cats always drank out of his bowl but they never tried to hurt him or eat him. They seem lost without the fish too.

This is sad. Three years is a long time for a beta fish to live. I have one too and forget to feed it regularly. I can't believe you would just hold it to clean the bowl out. Must have been traumatic for him. What was his/her name? Mine is called Nita.

His name was Mika.
And no, I didn't hold him as I cleaned it. I didn't have a fish scooper thing, so I picked him up and stuck him in a regular bowl filled with water while I cleaned it. :c
