I have been experiencing terrible migraines almost weekly. Sometimes it lasts for more than 24 hours. I have tried analgesics but it does not work. I do not want to see a doctor because I am just afraid that I might be diagnosed with something I do not like to hear. I had a hard time sleeping last night. Good thing, I can still do myLotting ! Have you experienced migraines too? Can you suggest some home remedies for migraines? Thanks in advance!;)

My husband suffered for years from migraines. He would get them so bad he could not function, he would even vomit, in fact they wouldn't go away until he started vomiting. The best remedy is prevention, it is all that would work for him . Most of the time he could tell if the migraine was coming and would take his medication then. He saw a doctor for it but would not take the prescription for it because he had to take it everyday. There is also a needle that you can go to the emergency department and get the shot. He wouldn't do that either, he couldn't function at all not even to get himself to the car for someone to get him to the hospital, as soon as you tried to move him he'd start vomiting. They gave him Tylenol 3, thats all he ever took for them and he only took them when he got a headache. Other things that helped: he claimed that some foods triggered it, for him it was tomatoe based foods, stress always triggered it ( if he was extremely stressed he would take his med as a prevention, heat would trigger it (especially from the sun) so he tried not to get too much sun. If you do get a headache, lay down and lay still, room should be dark, take med asap and my husbands swears this helps a cold cloth over forehead and eyes.

Your very welcome! If you have to be out in the heat as you work in the field, wear really good sunglasses. My hubby would say the sun glarring in his eyes would always cause a headache, especially if it was a long drive. Use your air conditioner in the car if you have one. If not try to open your window so the heat is not stifling. I hope something here works for you, I know how miserible migraines can be.

Thanks a lot Wordjunkie! I am really glad I do not vomit but I think I am close to that. I can not even eat breakfast normally. My problem is, my job entails being out in the field most of the time. I can drive but I am afraid I might lose control. Plus, the heat outside even if I am in an air-conditioned room now. The moment I go out, I can not bear the heat outside. I feel even more stressed now because I can not function well. I wanted to do a lot of things but I simply can't. I hope those simple home remedies will do the trick! Thanks again!

I have faced this problem before. And it was really a bad experience. At a moment the medicines were my only option. And yes sometimes 24 hours is not enough to relieve from the pain.My friend have a severe case in migraine he vomits when he has headaches and has to take a syringe.Thank god i never faced that. But then i went into homeopathy treatment it doesn't have a side-effects i personally would recommend it. But it is a slow process and wont get a sudden cure. Have a nice day..take care!!

I think when you suffer from migraines, you are not allowed to eat peanuts, chocolates, and cheese. Be careful what you eat. :D For me i usually would just massage my head when i have terrible headaches, i use some menthol ointment and it kind of gives me a relief.

Glad I am not a fan of any of those you mentioned. Can't use mentholated ointments too. My baby is allergic to this. Thanks chiyosan!;)

Here is a true story I have heard. At one time, one person was suffering from a very severe migraine problem. No medicines worked. So, he sought to practise "Meditation". The way was "mindfulness meditation". He kept practising that for about a year. After about a year, the trouble disappeared. That made him a true believer of "mindfulness meditation", and he continued on practising.

I have migraine, I often get it when I lack sleep and I had too much stress. What i usually do is just sleep. I don't rely on medicines too much. Your body will get used to it. They said migraines were cause with impacted tooth, insomnias and anemia. I suugest you see a doctor if you can't sleep because of sever headache. It can help you. Seek help now as it is still early...

Sorry to hear that you're suffering from such a terrible thing. I only suffer headaches once in a while. Actually I advice that you should see a doctor. Some headaches can get very serious and if you don't get it treated, it'll plague you for life. When you see a doctor, make sure that he/she listens to what you have to say and ensure that she explains her diagnosis well. Oh ya, be sure also to learn about the types of headaches like frontal, back and all those. This is so as not to misunderstand a simple headache for a migraine. I heard migraines could get very serious as to limit you from your activities. Here is a way to try to lessen the pain. Place your index finger bone and lightly massage your temple and the sides of your head. You can also try brewing some herbs to drink as remedy for the headache. Herbs like peppermint are very good for relieving the pain from headaches. Ginko is also another good option for you. It improves blood circulation and blood flow to your brain. I hope this helps you!

I try to take meds as early as possible, before it gets worse. Then I try to relax, breathe in and out evenly and sleep while I can. Sometimes I just have to endure it until I throw up or poop. Seriously, sometimes that's what it takes to be relieved. I hate migraines, when it's full blown, I can't do anything else.

I suffer from migraines, and doctors haven't helped me at all about that. After many tests they just told me to take analgesics to treat them... the same I was already taking and that don't make any effect at all. I have had the same one for several days, and it's very difficult to have a normal day when you can't move because your head will explode if you do... sometimes I hate doctors. I hope you can find a good remedy and share if it's effective

I drink a lot of water. Some may put some menthol ointment on their forehead, but I rather not put anything on it, because it makes it even painful.

Migraines are horrible. I can't move or do a thing when it attacks. The only thing that makes it better is Naproxen, a really cold and dark room, and my fist pressing against my right eye. :(

I am very discouraged when i get a migraine. i just feel like my head will explode at any moment. i usually go for the comfort of an extra strength aspirin to relieve this feeling. Most of the time this will do the trick for me.
