'MAJOR MAJOR' - A hard question from MISS UNIVERSE 2010

Hi there!
I believe majority of us watched the Miss Universe 2010 and we are happy that Venus Raj made it to the top 5. Some of us also a bit disappointed for she did not answer the question well...
You think its okay if she had an INTERPRETER instead?
And if you are the one who will answer the Question from Mr. Baldwin, (WHAT IS ONE BIG MISTAKE YOU'VE MADE IN YOUR LIFE AND WHAT DID YOU DO TO MAKE IT RIGHT?) how are you going to answer it?

My teacher uses "Major major" too and he is an american and he haven't even heard of Venus Raj. I don't know why Filipinos make a big deal out of this.

maybe she was just pre-occupied that time thats why she was not able to totally understand the question. she might thought that problem and mistakes are the same
though all people have problem and mistakes in life. but then because of the double words "major major" thats why people notice that theres something wrong with her answer but if she was just say "major problem" instead of saying "major major problem" which of course a filipinoism reaction, then everything will be fine.
if i were to answer the question then i would say that "every mistakes we had in our life have a purpose and for me i didnt recognize that mistakes but consider it as a part of life that makes me a better person. and how to make it right? actually it serve as a big lesson to learned for me and i just avoid it of not to happened again"

Well if you have watched the video on facebook regarding the said question, it was not only venus raj who struggled with that question, George W. Bush did had a hard time answering that question too.
I would say that if the question was not directed to us it sounds very easy, but for you to answer it quickly would be rough. It would need some time to dig for you to find the greatest mistake you ever did, not unless you are prepared to answer the question. Though it was really great if we placed higher than fourth, I am still happy that she made it to top 5.

Hi bev.. I agree to what you've said. That question is so hard though and it is hard to give a quick answer especially in a competition like Miss Universe.

like whats the big deal. its not the grammar but the thought that counts. anyway, english is not our national language so were not expected to be perfect with it. i dont really mind but then i think its the thought to her answer thats inadequate. like who wud believe she hadnt encountered any huge problem in her 22yrs of existence.
