I been hearing a lot from our countrymen that If they will be given the chance, they wanted to be an American or someone from a wealthy country. Well, I can't blame them.
But If you will ask me If I am happy being Filipino - My answer is 'I AM!' and BEING A Filipino is a blessing from God.
How about you?

Yes, I am happy that I am a Filipino. I love being a Filipino. Loving does not only mean loving in happy times but loving more during the worst times. That is why I am still happy being a Filipino despite of our bad image and worst things that happened...

Worst that happen to our country are: Calamities, hostage taking, war... invasion etc... but these improve the level of Filipino spirit and unity....
Part of the worse image is the corruption but a good action is to hate it and take a level higher to stop it...

Your answer is perfect kharlav! Loving isn't only for the good times, it's for the bad times as well. And since we love our culture and hertage, this starts the changes in ourselves, and we make things better for our country. I hope there are more people like us who love being a Filipino!

I had been given that chance, two times over actually, but I am still here, living it out in my native land? Am I happy?
Definitely. Nowhere else can I exist as I do in my own Philippines. Our kababayan had always been considered second class citizens in some distant, alien land. But here, I am what I am. Setting corruption and poverty and other ills aside, the Philippines is a paradise. The landscapes and the seascapes are very tropic, very beneficial to the health. And when you mingle with the natives or the locals in some province, you would be received like you are family. You get the best papag or bamboo bed with a decent kulambo mosquito net. You get to eat tinola made from native chicken and papaya. You get to be roasted in a tagay huddle as if you are some VIP. And the men serenade you...
The Filipinos are true and sincere, honest and courteous, humble and loving. Filipinos treat strangers as kapamilya or family. And they treat friends as kapatid or brother. In the Philippines, everyone is kapuso or solidified with heart.
I am blessed with good genes, too. My lineage may have been crossed with Chinese, Spanish, or whatever breed, but the fact that the color of my skin is as Malayan as Lapu-lapu, and the throbbing of my heart beats the same as Rizal and Bonifacio, Gregorio del Pilar, Diego and Gabriela Silang, Ninoy and Cory Aquino, then I am every inch a Filipino.
I am proud of Manny Pacquiao,Lea Salonga, Charice, Bata Reyes and many others who did put these islands in the global map.
I am a Filipino and am proud to be one!

To me, I'd rather be a Filipino than anything else but I wouldn't be proud as pride is not good. I am happy to be a Filipino because I like it's history: the invasions, corruptions, calamities, etc, etc, etc.

Hi gorilla... mind me asking why you like the corruptions and calamities?

Well, corruptions are just many of our big problems and hard to get rid of, and it automatically translates as a big part of our culture. The calamities is tied to our country, the location itself is not good but that is where we live and we survived for hundreds of years which symbolizes our strength though after we received help from the US we got stuck and we just depend on foreign help since then. You don't like it? It is just Filipino culture to me.

Hello Rodel,
I have Mix feelings of this sometimes. of course, i would never know if i should be the other person because i don't remember living on my other life. some people believed we are all in a state of reincarnation.
There had been people who made us proud but i wonder, had we taken that account to inspire ourselves? nope. some are even pulling them down because of jealousy or the ever going colonial mentality.
I am blessed to be a Filipino. i will be proud to be one some day if i had done something patriotic. for now, am happy we have people who make this country proud.

Hi Letran! (Ariba Letran! heheheh)
In simple ways, ways like keeping our surroundings clean, saving energy, smiling to someone, helping the needy are things that will make your country proud.
I can see that you have something in your heart that you want to do something great to your country and that's great! But I think being a great Filipino doest mean that you must be like charice pempengco or pacman... Being a great Filipino can be obeying rules, helping others in time of need, etc.
It is not the greatness of what you did for your country... what matters is what it is your heart that pushed you to do something for your country - be it small or great!
Continue loving our country Letran. God entrusted this country on us... and it is a responsibility.
Thank you for a very wonderful response. Have a great day!

im happy being filipino coz in here i can still asked help or live with my parents no matter what age i am, if you can see those who even got have their own family, they still live with their parents and they are big happy family. in here life is just simple, no need to rush up things and things are cheaper so you can really live here, rent is also cheaper thats why even if the salary is not that big, for me its alright. in other country, yes its true that they are wealthy and you can have big salary but the rent is very expensive like $500 and up, foods and other things are also expensive and you need to work hard or double nor triple so you can pay those expenses. im still thankful to be a filipino anyway.

I can relate to what you are saying... In my case, there in my early working years, there are times that I am short and I can still go to my parents and ask for money.. lol.
Though the value of our money is not that high, the standard of living is still affordable..
Kudos for a wonderfull responses homeshoppers.. enjoy being a Filipino!

Me too. I'm proud to be a Filipino. I'm proud that we respect our elders. I'm proud that we respect our parents. I love the fact that our parents would rather keep us in their homes than push us out and always tell us to find a job. I love how we love videoke! I love the sun, the beaches, the coconut trees! Having mangoes during summer!
There are a lot of things to love, to be proud of. People who'd rather they belong to a different race only see the bad side of being here. All countries have their bad sides, Tey're just seeing our bad sides as really bad because they live here. they eat, sleep and breathe here. They're blinded by how other nations are describing theirs, not really seeing the problems inside

I am not a 100% filipino by blood but I can say that I am happy that I am a filipino... and I am proud to be one, and proud to have the opportunity to be a Filipino. We are great in so many things, we are able, industrious, we get up everytime we fall, and we make friends and value people more than anyone else in the World! Truly, only filipinos would give up their own bed at night just to have a visitor sleep comfortably... right? We are a nation full of love, and respect for our "humanity" with values still very much grounded and I can say that Filipinos are a nation of strong belief, trust, love and fear of God.

Are you in the Philippines right now.. What I love in what you have said is 'A Filipino can give-up a bed for a visitor...' which is very true!
Nice response Chiyosan! Enjoy being a Filipino!

Yes I am happy to be a filipino and proud to be one. About people changing their citizenships would not be so bad. I think plenty of people doing that especially when you are living in a foreign country for quite some time or longer. It is a previledge given to someone. But in a sense, you do not forget who you are and where you from.

Yes I agree... even if they work and settle in a foreign land, they still prefer to go back in our country to spend the latter days of their lives.. Two thumbs up louie!
