Are you the type of Pinoy that would let down her/his country?
I am talking with my officemates who are very much a Filipino. My indonesian friend told us that the Philippines has ranked top in best, convenient and most beautiful place to go in Southeast Asia, score given by foreigners is close to perfect, at 8 points, 10 being the highest!
So, I am excited and told this to my officemate/s. One answered.. Maybe there are only few countries to go to in the SEA hence we made it to the top! Duh! this kind of made me feel angry. How could you belittle your own country like that?! I am not pure filipino, more on the chinese descent but I feel happy, proud and have not thought of this country such low! But she a 100% pinay said that?!
Wow! Its like thinking low of yourself and you do not deserve to be praised?! How can Filipinos (some not all) do this? Philippines is a great country. My indonesian friend loves this country of ours - and is always excited to come here for a visit!! and she's not even a Filipino...
Come on, Pinoys! Let;s give this country the chance it needs - in our own eyes.. If we keep doing this to ourselves, who else will think highly of this country??

Your officemate belongs to the few group of this planet who hated being in "her/himself" you know the kind of people who love to peep on the other side of the fence looking for some perfect view but failed to notice the quivering wonders within themselves, psychiatrists often brand them as "haters" or who love seeing themselves tortured with no apparent reason. I am glad I am not one of them.
Well, I am very happy and contented with my life in the Philippines, this is the only country I can call home and I am very proud of this country no matter what happen, if other Pinoys are not proud to be here or this country then just leave them with their insecurities. I am just wondering if they will migrate to other countries they will be very happy or contented. No place, environment or surroundings could make us happy not even other people, except ourselves. It is deep within and no other fence could ever guarantee of a perfect happiness. If they are not happy with the country then maybe they hated being themselves and that explains everything.

i guess you are right there! when you said about her being a hater. hmm it makes sense that often i remember now she would be complaining about the job, the company and i do not even see her work really hard?! hehe
It was just that i was kind of frustrated and annoyed that when i heard about the news, it made me feel happy and excited its good news, afterall and my initial reaction was to share with everyone here.. and you guessed right. all i heard was sarcasm; The Philippines was let down by a Filipino. How frustrating.

I'm not a Filipino myself but sometimes I complain about the bad things about my country and wish that I lived in other countries. There is a saying "Grass looks greener on the other side of the lawn" which means that other countries or places always look more attractive than your own no matter how good your country is. This simply because as human we are never going to be satisfied and always searching for a better place.

sometimes we just don't see the opportunities we have in our own country.but actually it always there.that is why we never feel satisfied and start searcing for other places for better life.if we can't see the opportunity i think why not we make one by our ownself.

Kinda sad that our own locals do not appreciate their own country but non locals loves it! even our language, some pinoys pretends not to know our language. Funny that some people after being in US for just 3 months of stay suddenly " does not know" how to speak the language. lol!! But some foreigners there are so proud to speak our native tongue. If people do not feel proud of our country, they do not belong here. They do not have a space here in the Philippines. I love our country. We should all love it and be proud.

I'm not pure Filipino (mum spanish ftw) and I don't live there but I'm still proud of it. We got great people, not only our talented celebrities but also those other commoners that perform very well in their jobs (OFWs). Maybe that person you're talking about is just bowing down too much to other countries, or she doesn't really care about what your country's going to be.

People have different perspective. If that is her point of view you can not do anything about it. She has the freedom of expression. But what you can do is to make her see how beautiful the country is. There is no place like Philippines. It is a very beautiful country and the people are nice too.
Some Filipinos belittle our own country because they want to live american dream?

While most filipino would be proud of our country including me, yes there are still few out there who are not happy and proud of being a Filipino. Yes, there are a lot of beautiful places in the Philippines that we should be proud of, the beaches, diving spots, the world heritage sites, the hospitality that we naturally have and so on…but despite of this beautiful things about our country, perhaps it is the current government system that we have that makes some Filipino unhappy for our country. The rampant corruption, poverty and the unemployment rate are one of those many dilemmas that the new administration is facing. And yes you’re right, let’s give this country the chance it needs. With the new administration, a lot of Filipino is hopeful. We desire a positive change from the government and I also hope from every individual in the Philippines.

What a shame that your officemate is thinking like that. Although i am greatful and happy to live in Canada, I am also proud of my origin. Our ancestors have made alot of efforts to build my country in history and they also fought with other countries to protect it. Such efforts they have made and the new generation must protect that history that our great great ... grandfathers and grandmothers gave us. I am sure that you feel this way about your country. I hope your friend will wake up one day and realize that people who have her attitude will destroy her own country.

I hate those Filipinos who hate their own country but i do understand those people who hates the government.Hehe..
Philippines is such a wonderful and exquisite place to live. We should be proud of it. Let us consider the tourist spots here as our best treasures. We have to go there someday before going abroad. Let's support our tourist industry so that our economy improves a way better. Let's all be happy and contented.

I think the same as the one giving high score for the Filipino. It's a beautiful and nice country!
About your friend not to love the country, yes it is sad. Because he or she do not value it, I doubt that person is going to value the country for what the country has given him or her.
Nowadays even youngsters are starting to love and build their country with pride. This is what we must think about, to love and value the country we live in.
Cheer up Filipinos!!!

I am happy of being a filipino. I have dreamed of working abroad btu never wish to live to a foreign land for a long time. I agree there are lots of beautiful places here where some i have visited.
For those filipinos who are not proud of our country, I/we cannot take it against from them. Maybe living here or being a filipino have done something which is not good for them. Everybody knows we topped the most corrupt country and others will take it on us even though we have nothing to do with that corruptions.

Hi, maybe this question goes not only for Filipinos but for all who do not clearly understood what their country is all about. I myself is a Filipino and is feeling sad each time i heared and read bad news about my country. Yes, Philippines is now on its lowest position especially now that we are facing so many trials and problems each day. It is not an exemption that we are not in our homeland that we should talk and act this way. Wherever we go, we will always bring with us the name of our country. Please my fellow Filipinos let's not add to the cause of these problems, if we think that we can't say something good about our country, please stop from shouting out to the world how bad it is. Because it's already in the news. Instead let's make our own move to justify that it's not everything bad at all. By the way we talk, the way we act, the way we work and the way we think we can make a difference. And I am still not lossing hope that we can do it better in the future, even if many already given up on these.

It's a sad reality that some Filipinos do think low of our Filipino blood and belittle the country where our ancestors came from. It's unfortunate that all they see is the negative side of the country and not appreciate it for what it really is - a bountifully endowed islands with one of the richest biodiversity in the world plus top tourist spots at par or better than other countries and the resilient Filipinos that still strive to live amidst the negativity around them. Regarding your officemate whom you say 100% Pinay, I'm not sure if it's just false modesty on her part that's why she said that or she's simply not proud of her being a Filipino. Either way, what she said is shameful. Our country is just the same as others, it has its problems and it also has its ugly side. That's a given fact. But to denounce being a Pinoy or be ashamed of her Filipino lineage just because she cannot accept that reality - I have no words. I guess, she hasn't just reached that level of maturity. What a shame. :-(

NOT ALL Filipinos are not happy for their country... Many are still proud.. including me... But we can't blame those who are not satisfied in our current state because of poverty and corruption.
