“No homework or assignments shall be given during weekends for pupils to enjoy their childhood, and spend quality time with their parents without being burdened by the thought of doing lots of homework," that’s the memorandum from DepEd.
While this may favorable for the family, will this not affect the attitude of the children towards their schooling? Won’t it be hard for them to catch up for their lessons come Monday after a 2 days break from school? You know Monday sickness; even at work we tend to experience this Monday laziness sickness. How about you, what are your views regarding this matter?

I graduated with a lot of home during my school days. There is no effect in our family bonding and our moments as a family. No homework in weekends is not the answer to spend quality time with our family. Minimal assignment maybe will do. Still they will learn some discipline doing some assignment during weekends.

I studied in a private school and the teachers had been given that memo when I was in high school. I'm now a graduate student, and looking back, I think it's great that educators are mindful of children's other needs. Kids should be given a break, like in the weekends, when they could socialize with their families and friends and play to their heart's content. It is only appropriate, for in practice they learn more about life outside books and lectures. education is up to the parents and the school to make it work. both parents and teachers should make sure that on school days the child must focus on their academics and learn their assignments well.

In my opinion, this is a good idea. Having homeworks during weekends take too much time from the kids to have a good bonding moments with their loved ones. Weekends are supposed to be a family time for them. 5 days at school is already too much time for their studies. It has a negative effect on kids if they take more time on school works without giving them quality time for their family and friends. Child development does not entirely given or taken from school.

That is a good decision that Deped has done in the past years. I was a teacher in a private school and we already have this kind of thing. No homework for weekends. It did good for the students. They have time to play during weekends. they have time to feel free from school... Doing this will put a positive remark on a students;s mind that homework and school is not a task to do but n area for them to learn.
