why do people post "complicated" in their relationship status in facebook?

I've seen people posting "complicated" in their relationship status in facebook. Is this a way of attracting friends and a means of being 'different" from the normal crowd?

it's because all about facebook are how about to "promote" and complicated is part of the relationship status!

It annoys me because I feel like it forces me to ask, "Aww, what's wrong with you and X? I'm so sorry for you, blahblahblah." In my opinion, my relationship and its problems are personal and only interesting for me and my partner, it shouldn't be put on the internet.

My status say in a relationship and pointing to my boyfriends name you can view who he is and his is also posted the same. Although a bit chuckling to see a it's complicated status, I too have also wondered what that really meant. As I suppose I have always looked at as you in or not in a relationship. I guess it goes with many life situations that when given many options one would opt for the one most closest to it. It's complicated to me means not sure if I am still in a relationship but I am involved with someone. I may be wrong as I suppose people may have many reasons for listing it this way. Then I think of my boyfriends mother who is 66 years old, she has a facebook page and has hers listed as it's complicated. Although she lives in another state, in the 5 years that I know her she has had no partner. So maybe she likes someone but they are not really a couple.. I have never dared to ask..

Well i would personally think that maybe you are right. They want others to have a chance at them or to suggest them or to gain their sympathy so that's why they mention that it's complicated. It's actually single or in a relationship. While every coin has two sides this has also two sides. Some are really confused about what to do and what not to do. So they say that they are in a complicated stats in a relationship. Cheers!

Some people are honest some are not...We cannot just judge people. Each have their own reasons why they chose to post that relationship status. I chose complicated because my relationship status is "really complicated". It's like married but separated, separated but in a relationship, in a relationship but separated.

Mine is "it's complicated" why? it is because I am not single nor married lol. I don't intend to catch attention but my current relationship status is really complicated.

I have no idea, to be honest. I have wondering the same thing myself. I always thought it was used by people who wanted to get some attention, though. But reading some of the replies here, I realize that that might be wrong...

It's funny that you ask that.. My current relationship status on facebook is "it's complicated". And that's the truth.. because it is. My husband and I are married.. we have been going through some things... we are both on Facebook.. so we both decided that that's how we wanted it to be. I feel like that if it is mutual, then go for it. When we are on better terms, then and only then, will I change it back to married. I could care less what others on there think. I'm not there for them solely.

hello edna! i guess, some posting "its complicated" because its true to their life status, some where not. they just want to have lots of comments and notifications in their account. like what i did, i just post into my wall that im getting married soon, but i just did it because im getting bored handling a non workable system at the office. when i noticed lots of my friends kept asking when, i was pissed of, lol. what i did was to remove it into my wall. :) sometimes, when you feel bored in facebook you tend to do something unusual and i did it once. :)
